Srs? They actually got new MHS kids interested on the gold diplomas?
Interesting.

Yeah, pretty much do what every other MHS / old MHS boys (like me) have said.
Go do music. Preferrably join at least 2 bands (hint: ORCHESTRA.) Do a bunch of
curricular activities like debating, try to get in the SRC and get those shiny oval
academic award things.

Don't let the other people put you off (although i'm sure they're just joking).
Reckon gold diploma's a good thing.

But tbh, they should have a gold diploma equivalent for the rest of the quiet smart
MHS kids. This gold diploma thing only rewards extroverts, not introverts.
Petition MHS for equality.

I might be completely off point, but from just what I've gathered, isn't this gold diploma business to encourage getting involved in with the community etc.? Wouldn't rewarding people who don't do that go against the purpose of the gold diploma?

Laser, you didn't read my statement.

SHOULD HAVE A GOLD DIPLOMA EQUIVALENT.

There's always shy people who are actually nice, smart and helpful
yet they don't get some sort of awards just because they're not
the types to join in and get involved. That's what i'm saying.

But i think it's just me, cause I wasn't that that involved during my MHS years
(except on a few forays to music and stuff).

Nah I did read your last statement.

Wouldn't giving out awards to those that don't get involved mean that the gold diploma's purpose to try and persuade people to get out there and get involved be diminished?

What would you actually give them awards for if you don't know what they do? I don't go to MHS, so my knowledge here is limited, but aren't these type of awards kind of useless and insignificant - from my understanding it's just to encourage people to actually do something.

If it is as you say - allocated according to accumulated 'points' - it sounds like a good way to promote narcissism and faux ethos.

What are the criteria and points and how does it work exactly? (e.g. is it allocated by purely mathematical means? Weighting for different activities and performance in those activities?)

For co-curricular: Yeah different activities have different weightings and you get more as a "participant" or an "achiever" for each category. There are also points for Merit/Half-colours/Full-colours, and leadership positions.

For academic: more points in the order top 20% -> top 10% -> top 5%, and you get points per unit completed at school too.
