How likely is it for me to get an access Melbourne guarentee if I receive youth allowance. since there various degrees of youth allowance, do they take this into account? Do they look at your income as well? If anyone that has gotten acccept due to receiving youth allowance, do you mind saying how much you recieved? Thank you

You should get in regardless of what type of youth allowance you have so long as you get above the prescribed ATAR. It only depends on whether you met the criteria or not, and i do believe that receiving youth allowance means you qualify on the basis of the socially disadvantaged background. So you just need a score above the guarantee

Thanks for the reply. The criteria being things like atar, domestic student, that kind of stuff?
And also, say if they start to run out of places fore middle band, do they decide who gets in by the degree of their situation? Or their Atar? For example say theres one spot left for Commerce where the clearly in is 95 and guarenteed is 88 for SEAS:
Student A: moderately financialy disadvantaged with 89 Atar
Student B: mildly financialy disadvantaged with 94 Atar

who would get the place? thanks

That's a rather difficult scenario to judge. Student A is more disadvantaged than student B. Student A may haven't been able to expose his/her full potential, as most likely be the case with student B as well. However, if student A was to display their full potential, will their performance be able to justify over student B if they weren't disadvantaged as well? It's too hard to call, though I'd say student B has the better edge as the selection panel may favour the higher achieving student by default, without distinguishing their applications into smaller criteriae.

It would then be based on individual circumstance and they have a panel who would then make decision based on the outlined difficulty. But as I have said, If both are in receipt of youth allowance then both would've gotten in on the basis of them having met the criteria for financial disadvantage and also meeting the guaranteed ATAR score. It isn't as arbitrary as only having one spot left. In your situation it is reasonably simple, have the prerequsite subjects and get above the guarantee ATAR and also be eligible for disadvantaged socioeconomic background (which you are) then you will get in.

If qualifying for financially disadvantaged is simply having youth allowance, is there any point in submitting other types of information such as FTB-A?

Sorry but i have another question. I just recently found out that I was also eligible for recieving Family Tax Benefit A but I didnt include it. I only ticked youth allowance. Given that I gave them my CRN, would they check? Could they possibly see that I recieve that and improve my chances? thanks

Well it wouldnt affect your chances of getting in based on the guarantee ATAR but it would affect your chances of possibly getting an ACCESS scholarship.

I'm not 2 sure abt this, but i believe it will mainly be based on your application so they will asume you just have youth allowance.

Sorry guys but now Im reaaally paranoid since I havnt performed as well as I'd like in exams and now I'm desperately relying on SEAS. Has anyone been rejected for SEAS for just having youth allowance even though they obtained the guarenteed atar? Sorry if I'm whining but I really need some reasurrance! :-\

Basically if you have youth allowance (and hence social and economic disadvantage) and get above the guarantee ATAR you WILL get in. lol
