PRINCIPLE OF LEAST EFFORT AND LABELLING THE BRAIN

I just saw this on a practice paper --- what on earth is the Principle of Least Effort?
I've also encountered numerous questions where I am required to label/identify parts of the brain involved in learning. Frankly, in all the diagrams I'm seen, most of the areas are so closely located that I find it hard to differentiate their relative positions.
If anybody has a clear diagram or an explanation of where the Hippocampus, Amygdala, Ventrel Tegmental Area, Basical Ganglia, and Hypothalamus are in relation to each other, it would be greatly appreciated.

They're all in the central area of the brain, where the brainstem emerges up into the forebrain. I doubt you need to know it in any detail. This picture might help

The principle of least effort just proposes that an organism will take the shortest route to its destination based on a cognitive map it has of the area. One of Tolman's ideas 

Yeah, I don't think they'll ask to identify structures, especially not the ventral tegmental area or the basal ganglia
