just a clarification
so if a person is suffering from a minor illness as a result of stress they are most likely in the resistance stage
and if its a more major illness its the exhaustion stage??

Correct me if I'm wrong, but yeah I think that's right..
During resistance the person is trying to deal with the stressor. Resistance to the stressor is really high, but the illnesses usually come about towards the end of the resistance stage (when the resistance to the stressor slightly reduces, as the graph shows). Hence, illnesses during resistance should be minor to the point where they still enable the person to deal with the stressor to some extent. e.g. A cold.

During exhaustion the person is physically and mentally exhausted and can't deal with the stressor. This is where the more major illnesses fall (that disallow the person to deal with the stressor). e.g. Depression, hypertension,etc.
