To got 40 and above for methods what scores should you be looking to get on both exams (with A+ sac average)?

For example lets say this years A+ cut off for exam 1 is 36.5 and i got 36/40 so (A)
And for exam 2 i get 70/80 (A+)?

What do reckon these marks will get you in methods?

It always depends on the type of exam it is mate :).

For reference, last year I got 44 with A+ SACs, 39/40 for exam 1 and 72/80 for exam 2. If you have A+ SACs you're well on your way to get 40!
2011: Maths Methods: 44
2012 hopes: Spesh (45+) Physics (50) Chem (45) Music (40) Eng Lang (38)

What would (-1) exam 1 and (-3) exam 2 net me? (-5) exam 2?

Lol i don't know how many i lost, but most people at my school seemd to think it was a little bit easier than last years, if this is the case -5 isn't anything amazing. Although i go to MHS so it's not representative of the wider state obviously

I can't say until i see the exam
but you can almost assume that some kids will have full marked both
i'd say 48-49 for 3 marks and 45-47 for 5 marks
2010: Chinese SL (36 ---> 45.6), Accounting (48 ---> 48.4)
2011: English (47), Methods (50), Spesh (43 ----> 52.7), Chemistry (48 ----> 49.3), Physics (38)
ATAR: 99.90
2011 UMAT:
S1:[105] S2:[45] S3:[90] Overall:[80] Percentile: 100th

Need chem/methods tutoring?
I'm offering it based predominantly in the south-eastern suburbs (Caulfield-ish) - PM me.

you could only drop 1 last year for 50.

I personally don't think it was that hard for the top kids which is why im a bit dissapointed i lost a few which would in all likelyhood rule me out of a 50 or 49

this is correct, i dropped 2 marks on exam 2 and didn't get a 50, despite 100% sacs and 40/40 exam 1

Yeah, from what I've read on here you're incredibly bright so I don't doubt it.

Anyone who smashes Methods is a hero in my eyes! Haha

Lol i haven't smahsed methods... And im nowhere near as smart as thushan and co :P
Itute has some answers up, i got different for 2 questions IIRC,
One will be -1

But another was a 3 mark related rates, if i made a mistake in working, and therefore got the worng answer, is that 1/3?

 If so ive lost at least 3 for SA and some for Mc as well :( ( assuming itute is correct)

For sure, kids who score 50's in numerous Maths and Sciences are incredible!
Reading Paul only dropped 2 marks out for an entire year in Methods and still didn't get 50 blows my mind.

What would (-1) exam 1 and (-3) exam 2 net me? (-5) exam 2?

1) 48 - 49 (depending on the cut-offs)
2) 47 - 48 (depending on the cut-offs)

I know a friend who got 35/40 + 80/80 with 100% SACs in 2010 who got 47.

Reading Paul only dropped 2 marks out for an entire year in Methods and still didn't get 50 blows my mind.

Such is the nature of VCE Maths (and to a lesser degree, Sciences + English as well). I lost a lot of marks on IT - Software Development and still ended up with 48 :P
