Assuming it's true, and I see no reason why it wouldn't be, his dad marks students papers and apparently they had a meeting or something and he told me .29 will be given 2/3, didn't really ask him more than that. I'm relieved, that much closer to my measly 25.  :P

If you managed to solve what was arguably the hardest question on the paper (to some extent), you'll defs get more than 25 :P

I think the implication was he got .29 lol
Anyways, i'm really confused by this 2/3 thingo,
Either it's not too ambiguous and they should give .29 1/3 or
It's too ambiguous and they should award it 3/3
not sure what VCAA will say in assessors will be interesting

Ha I got .29 like hundreds others. Just asked him and he says it's 2/3 instead of 1/3 because of how many people wrote .29 and the way it was worded.

What if I answered it as 29/88? Did it conditionally but I have no idea how I ended up with 88 instead of 64...

you'd get 1-2, depending on how nice they are and exactly what you did wrong.

Given that he got the 29 part and if 0.29 gets 2/3 marks, he should get 2/3 for using the conditional probability anyway.

Back to exam 2, it was one of the hardest I've done. Made some of the most stupid mistakes ever!!! The prob question with Q's 3,4 and 5, I read that she gets Question one CORRECT (by the way, assuming the rest is right, will this get 1 or 2 out of 3?). VCAA also screwed me over with the normal distribution; my standard deviation rounded to 2.501, sigh...). Also missed a>0 on the last question as well as some multi choice. Anyway, enough ranting.

Can anyone estimate my study score? Ranked top 10 in SACs in a strong-ish cohort. around 37 in exam 1, and low 70's (71-72) for exam 2.

Thanks, and wish everyone else the best with their results.

Sd may have been 2.501
I think that's what i got, and i think the answer varies depending on SF retained,
So 2.501 may be correct (not sure)

You'll get lowish 40s with that probs

They should have asked for 2 decimal places for that question... surely they noticed the answer varied

M.... I usually retain plenty of significant figures, so i'm reasonably sure they'll have to accept (at least) whatever i put (if i did it as per usual)
I *think* i got 2.501 lol

i believe the 'correct' answer is 2.500, which is what you get if you retain all decimal places.

EDIT: that said, they should and most likely will accept both answers.

Is there a limit to how many marks you can lose for 'technicalities' (rounding, units etc.) on a paper?
Feels unfair that for a standard paper you could lose like 10 marks lol

I have a feeling there are no limits for technical errors, VCAA's just like that.  Also, how do you think they will mark that prob question I described. Misread the condition, but worked it out with the right method. 1 or 2 out of 3? Also, out of interest, given the difficulty of the exams, what do you would be needed from each exam for a high 40's (47+)?

I'm leaning towards 2, just because it's only one mistake, but who knows, they may be really tight.
I would say dropping 2-3 across both will be a 50, especially as .29 is not 3/3.
probably could afford to drop maybe ~5-7 across both for a 47+ (personally i don't think the top end will fall off that much this year)

Anyone know if Do they do it like chem, where they just choose one of the questions to take marks off for units, dp etc?

From what I know, units aren't important in methods unless specified (eg. if you're thinking about the area questions in Q5, I don't think it matters). For d.p. I'm not sure. A friend wanted to ask, what will 39/40, 75/80, and A+ SAC's get him?
