HI,

I know this question may have been posted somewhere else, but i don't get the way to find a base peak on a mass spectrum.

Is it true that we could predict a substance's base peak by looking at its structure prior to Mass spec?

My teacher's not quite sure...

anyone?

The base peak is just the highest peak in the mass spectrum and is given an intensity of 100%.
Unless you know the fragmentation pattern you can't predict what it will be (and this is not something you would be expected to be able to do at VCE level)
