since im not doing humanities/artsy subjects does that mean i dont need to attempt those questions and focus on the maths ones instead? because the mark from humanities/artsy section wouldnt affect my scores anyways

any, all or none of the three sections on the GAT can be used in the statistical moderation of your SAC marks, irrespective of whether it's the arts/hums questions used for a science subject for example.

so best to do them all

you serious? but whats the point of splitting them up into specific sections if the humanities is going to used for relating to a science exam paper for example?

Why wouldn't you do them?  The GAT is 3 hours long, you (probably) don't have anything else better to do, this concerns your future, why take shortcuts?

Its such bullshit that the GAT can be used to moderate you sacs. It is sooo much harder than anything you do in year 12, and frankly a bunch of general knowledge questions doesnt tell you anything about how your school marks your sacs.

why is it bullshit? it's the one COMMON task that EVERYONE does and has been found to be a good indicator of performance.

an alternative would be to make everyone doing subject X the exact same task at the exact same time (sounds like exams now doesnt it, like the old HSC where assessment was 100% exams). this does not allow schools to prepare tasks suitable for their cohort to enable them to RANK students. eg MHS and MacRob SACs have to be more difficult than your average joe school

and in the end, the GAT is only one of the measures used to moderate SACs/SATs

It isn't really used to moderate your own SACs that much, but rather, your cohort as a whole from my understanding. Difficulty of SACs has all along been a negligible factor as all that comes out of SACs are the cohort rankings anyway. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think pretty much the majority of the statistical moderation with respect to your SACs is done based on your cohort's exam performance rather than the GAT. Overall, the most common use of the GAT I've seen is in the form of insurance for the unfortunate case that you need to get derived scores.

Wouldn't that place someone who is at a greater level than the cohort at his school at a disadvantage then? Considering it's based on the performance of the group as a whole. Does that mean they don't recognise indivudual achievement on the GAT?

As I said, I'm pretty sure the majority of scaling is done based on exam performance and GAT is negligible in most cases. Someone might want to re-read VCAA's take on this since I don't remember it all though.

presumably, someone who is at a greater level than the cohort will get much better SAC marks, so VCAA will see that
