Hi,

I was just wondering if your year 12 teacher is allowed to read your exam when it is completed. My friend did year 12 lit this year and did her exam Friday and she told me today that her lit teacher came up to her and told her she read her exam and she did really great. I was a bit unsure I thought teachers weren't allowed to.

I'm fairly sure both reading the exam and telling your students about it are somewhat illegit...

I was talking to a teacher today, and he said that as an English Assessor, they read one of his students' exams as a benchmark for marking. I think VCAA just chose random ones for the assessors to read, and it just so happened that he recognised the handwriting. So maybe assessors might get their students' exams by chance, but I doubt they're supposed to actually read the whole thing.

And then my Chem teacher this year said that he knew the Chief Assessor's best student had lost a mark in the mid-year. (We were discussing a question that I'd gotten wrong). So I'm guessing the Chief Assessor also saw his student's exam and talked about it with my teacher.

So it's not unheard of, especially if your teacher's an assessor. But EZ's right, doesn't sound too legit.  :-\

Examiners have to put in a form before they receive any papers, the form requires them to indicate any schools with which they are associated. VCAA then ensure that the assessor does not receive any papers from those schools.
For instance, an assessor, a teacher at Billabong High, whose son is at Platypus High and daughter at Koala Secondary, will not get any papers from any of those schools. Also, if the assessor tutors students from a school, then those students' individual student numbers are included, to ensure that their papers are not marked by their tutor
