How did everyone go with the exam?

I reckon I went pretty good, was annoyed at the fact there was hardly ANY information system questions and mainly based on spreadsheets and databases.

Struggled with the normalisation 6 marker, only really studied first normalisation, not second and third!

Yeah, didn't expect it to pop up in the exam. Do you think you aced most of the other parts?

Was easier than i expected, I think I'll lose 2 marks from MC and a few from the 6 mark normalisation and 9 mark questions.
hopefully higher than 70/90 so i can get that A+

I was pretty surprised by the amount of database and spreadsheet questions though. Overall a good exam with no horrible questions.

What did people say for the "Choose a social networking site and explain how it meets the needs of the users" or something question? A few of my friends chose Facebook, but I thought it was asking for a type so I chose forums and explained why it would meet the needs of a user for social networking.

And the ethical dilemma question regarding to Ally using stolen accounts?

Replying in this thread rather than the massive exam one because I've had the exam topics blocked by myself, kinda redundant when I can log out and see it.

Many people at my school seem to think they aced it, so I'm not entirely sure how to feel about it.

My first impression during reading time was that it was a bit of weird exam, it was very focused without much variance in topics. For example, there was only one question specifically asking about legality, and even then, it was simply 'State one act/law that applies here' worth 1 mark. Additionally, there were no questions on the types of decisions and who makes them.  This was all pretty good for me personally as they're my two weakest areas :)  The first page of short answer was relatively simple, with questions such as, 'State some software for hosting a website and explain its function' and ii) 'State some hardware for hosting a website'.
There were an abundance of questions that asked for you to use either RDBMS/SS in your answers, at least three AFAIK. One of which, was the traditional '8 marker' which was worth 9 marks this yeah, but was nearly exactly the same as one of the ones from Engage Education.

Overall, i don't think I did aswell as would have hoped for, but #YOLO.

I think I did well in it, the only questions which I'm not too sure I did correctly is when you had to choose a social networking site and many specifically chose facebook whereas I chose a type - forum, and a couple of the RDBMS/SS questions. And maybe 2 marks off the 6 marker normalisation.

Too many questions on SS/RBDMS was my thought when I looked at it, since I put a lot of time into information systems and didn't see a single question regarding to backing up, archiving etc.

The exam was pretty much: "Spreadsheets and RDBMS'" with like 6 marks on some networking when you had to talk about softwares, hardwares and I think the last one was if it would be an open or closed community.

Ah, this was a bit of an unexpected and weird question. Initially I was thinking like you, but then it said 'Choose' so I'm like oh I think they mean a specific website.
I'm pretty sure the question was worth 4 marks, which imo is a lot for what is essentially listing 3 reasons that are all pretty similar.

And the ethical dilemma question regarding to Ally using stolen accounts?
It was pretty ambiguous because it didn't specifically say that there was a cost to print, so what I wrote was something along the lines.
"Assuming that there is an associated cost per print, Ally has a moral obligation to..." and basically said that it may financially impact others and then I went on to say that she should decline the offer and then perhaps inform an administrator that Jack had gained unauthorised access to peoples accounts.

Well seeing the question asked some things she should consider or something:

I talked about she should think if it was right using stolen accounts which her friend provided her, and the possible consequences that her friend could face a long with their relationship (with more detail ofc).

^ Not sure if I did it right.

With choosing the social networking site I thought they meant as in what type of site. I dunno, my teacher told me as long as I explained why a forum would meet the needs for a user for a social networking site I'd get it, but i dunno it didnt specify specific or type.

I reckon I did quite well except the normalisation question. I knew 1NF and 2NF and struggled to remember 3NF.

Couple of the MC threw me off too, had to decide between 2 answers that seemed so similar

.. and that 9 mark question! Argh so much writing :p

There were like 3 questions regarding choosing between SS and RDBMS, 2 were 6 marks total and the last one was 9 marks. VCAA should of at least substituted one out for questions on things like disaster recoveries or backups.
