How did you find the exam?
« on: November 13, 2012, 05:41:45 pm »
Personally, I think I did quite well. Before I came into the exam, I was expecting around a C or C+, but now I think I might score a B+, since I managed to answer every question and write quite a lot more than I usually do.

How did you all go?
2012 ATAR - 86.75

2014: BSci (Statistics) at RMIT

^ Same. I was quite worried and didn't think I'd do very well at all. To be honest, I completely neglected philosophy and crammed the whole course into a week of study. Ended up having to get another script book and answered everything! Pretty astounded, but yes. It was much more fair than I thought it would be.

I did not like the essay questions in themselves however I still managed to write a six and a bit page (1400+ words) essay I am pretty confident in backing as 'good'.

The questions in the other three sections were very accessible I thought; finished with around five minutes to go which was good although I didn't change any of my answers - only composition and spelling/grammar etc.

What did everyone say in regards to sending our children to Kookaburra (I think) College in question three of section B? Did anyone write without reference to prescribed philosophers as you're entitled to do?

I will be happy with an A - I think I deserve it! I felt so prepared going in and coming out felt even better: NO MORE WEIL EVER!

Well done Philosophy Class of 2012!

Please tell me that's a joke... that's more than I wrote in my entire 2 hour literature exam, and you wrote that for just one section (1/4) of the philosophy exam?!

For the opinion, I didn't reference philosophers at all. I said that it would be a wonderful school to send my hypothetical child to because it not only develops the persons character, but it also makes them feel welcomed and accepted within the community. It provides them with support incase they fail academically and it also allows them to feel as if they have a purpose in society.

I referenced Plato, Aristotle and Weil, saying that I personally agree with these philosophers and showed how the stimulus demonstrated ideals of each of their three philosophies.

I believe the exam was actually quite challenging in some regards. The question on rhetoric was completely unexpected. I had the most horrible evaluation. I simply said that I think Socrates argument is sound given that rhetoric produces a superficial understanding and doesn't teach people about the true nature of life. ie. it simply beats around the bush. Does that sound like an acceptable evaluation or is it too shallow?

I completely froze for the Descartes question on I think therefore I am. I know there is lots of evaluation against this claim but I disagree with them all. So  I simply said that I think his argument is quite indisputable given that he may deny the existence of a corporeal self but he can't deny the fact that he is thinking and that he therefore exists.

The essay section was difficult. I chose topic 3 on uniformity.
