I'm pretty sure I'll have lost all 4 marks for the question about audience theory ): Wrote about passive and aggressive audiences and then the Mean World Syndrome, but I think it wanted communication theories and then for us to explain how they related to audiences. Fingers crossed I get at least a mark of two for that, I wrote so much for it! Total waste of time.

There really is not enough space for answers haha. I filled out every bloody inch of the exam booklet and then a page of an additional script booklet with my tiny handwriting. Just hoping the examiner doesn't get pissed about having to flip back and forth...

I thought it was pretty decent! Our class was divided- some talked about passive/active, some talked about cultural studies theories...

I talked about passive/active audiences and linked it to theories... Bit worried :S

I wrote about desensitisation and imitation for the audience theories.

No offputtingly long extended response questions? THANK YOU VCAA 2012.
What did you guys write about the last question about the issues that arise from regulation in a democratic country such as Australia? I thought this question was quite fun to answer because we can use real knowledge from the news, etc. I wrote about people being angry when the government suggested mandatory internet filtering.

I thought about doing that ): There's nothing in the study design about audience theories. I feel like the Media Effects and Cultural Studies theories would have been appropriate, sigh.

For the last question I said that overly rigorous regulation has the capacity to impinge on civil liberties involving the rights of citizens of democracies like Australia to say and hear what they want, and that the goverment can effectively control the media. Than I said that this was the motive for self-regulation where so long as media organisations etc are responsible and ethical they can essentially mandate their own content and hence escape from government restrictions and it frees them up.

Yeah audience theory question got me too, I did passive/active.

Overall thought I did pretty well, just don't think I did good enough for it to be in my primary 4, so we'll see.

Yeah the wording seemed quite ambiguous... I wasn't a fan!

I talked about freedom of speech being restricted, danger of complete censorship with govt regulation.
Did anyone find the last social values questions slightly weird? Wasn't sure was to fully focus on!

I said dominant was the men should be sole income earner - Leave It to Beaver; and then emerging was that gay couples are legitimate in society and raising families - Modern Family. And then went off on tangents regarding both.

Question 2b for Social Values didn't make me feel comfortable at all, I had to delve into a text I haven't used in my SACs or Prac SACs at all (Who's the Boss?) and I'm fairly sure I got the main female characters name wrong.

Were you expected to write on representations in the final q? I talked about emerging value and a dominant value found in one of my texts but didn't explicitly say 'representations.'

I didn't mind 2b, I was convinced there would be a compare q on two texts so I was a bit lucky in that aspect!

I just went Clare Dunphy v June Cleaver, as well as Clare/Phil v June/Ward. Do you think comparing only 1.5 or 2 representations will hurt for 2b? I went into some detail.

I think that will be fine! I only used 3 reps all up on 2b... As long as you have enough detail I think you're good! (granted with the new study design who knows how the mark allocation will work!)

I wonder how the state as a whole went with the 'audiences theories' question? Was that new to the study design? Potentially wasn't taught very well so maybe the A+ cutoff will be slightly lower,,,
