Big not better for university's future

Adelaide University is promising smaller classes ...

How do you think this will fit in with the govt's policy of having more people undertake tertiary study?
If this became a trend, would we need to establish more universities as the UK did in the 60s?

I personally think more universities of a smaller scale is definitely better.  Talking to my friends who study in Melbourne/Sydney, the smaller class sizes at ANU really do seem to make a difference; I feel engaged and involved, and not disenchanted and another "number" like some of my friends claim.  More small universities is also good in that it promotes competition and difference.  There's only plenty to gain from this.

It could also mean more jobs for academics and teachers, which is always a plus!

(You know, just looking at it from the non-student side of things).
