:O Quite a few people can't choose their oral presentation topics? Our cohort got to choose, but a few students thought pre-assigned topics would have been better because 1) the teachers know the topic in-depth; and 2) There's no stress associated with choosing a topic.

I tend to disagree, though. For most people, a better performance is achieved through passion regarding the topic being debated.

Thoughts?

Well as you know mine was assigned and as I hadn't thought of anything else, I don't mind. However, I probably would write better if I could choose an issue I was passionate about.

Just thought I'd mention that Spies turns out to be a great book for the context Whose Reality?. I haven't read a book which has encapsulated me in such a long time and it's a novel I'd love to explore in both context and text response terms. I can't wait to read this again and study it in class. So if anyone's willing to read an extra text for their context, I cannot recommend Spies by Michael Frayn highly enough. :)

Our first SAC for next year isn't an oral, so I don't know how we choose the topic and stuff.

But our first SAC is a text response to Stasiland. So, I'm guessing the 2nd assessment is the oral.

Me too. I read it once and felt like puking out of boredom.

Not sure how that works though

Good luck :) We had to study it during Y12 and it was such a chore!

However there are plenty of themes throughout the story. The essays were quite straightforward.

Our teacher told us never to pick an issue that didn't have any impact on us, also known as choose something you have a passion for otherwise it's useless. I appreciate that we're allowed to pick out our own topics, after all we are forming our own contentions and arguments plus a rebuttal to prove a point we feel we need to make, to expose the issue at hand.

I'm doing imaginative landscape :(  Not my ideal context... The texts we're studying with it are The View From Castle Rock and the film, One Night The Moon.
My first text response is Twelve Angry Men, and my second is Stasiland.
Our first SAC is also the oral, and we had to choose our own topics (plus, we are being examined by two external examiners, not by our teachers). I'm arguing that religious instruction shouldn't be placed in government schools.

If anyone is studying the same things as myself, please feel free to message me for discussions and what not. :D I like discussions haha
