He could just be a 'clingy as fuck' kind of guy. OP needs to go next-level stalker mode to figure it out. Or you could just ask him straight-up if he'd like to hang out - buuutttt the guy could be confused and take it to mean he is considered 'just a friend' by you... Asking him to hang out is probably a good idea, as it's not as awkward if he turns you down (you mentioned you were shy).

Just reading your post though, it sounds like he's interested in you.

Seriously, ask his mates, usually they'll want to egg him on, so if they have a hunch that you like him too, they'll push you two closer together.

look, first you should determine whether he is just as clingy with other people. if not, hes totally into you, but be careful. it might be in a 'youre my bro' kinda thing, and if you ask him out with 'brofriendship' in his mind, you could potentially strain a great friendhship. i speak from experience. makes things very awkward and there is no coming back. sorry if i sound too dark, but i just wanted to voice my experiences, which i feel are relevant.
