And different UC campuses would count as different preferences?

The University of California has ~10 campuses and UCLA is one of the campuses. When applying for UC, you place it in one preference spot, and then write 3 preferences for it. You still have to apply for 3 separate universities in your form or they will knock it back.

Oops, meant to say 'different UC campuses'. Shows how narrow-minded I am haha.

Cheers.

Yeah when I saw all the different campuses on the Global Mobility website a few months ago I basically only considered UCLA, the others just didn't seem as appealing haha. Though undoubtedly they're all fantastic.

Yeah you really have to be prepared to go to any campus. Since they are all on-par with Melbourne or better in engineering specifically, I'm really not too fussed. (except for Merced. ewwwww)

What if you're like me and are choosing purely on experience, not academics? Like in terms of campus atmosphere and extra-curriculars student life and the like? Any idea?

If you are looking for experience, I would recommend a lower-tiered UC. This is coming from my two Chemistry lab heads who are from America. This is because there would be less focus on academics and study and will (from what I've heard from them) have a more vibrant experience.

However, I'm sure that Berkeley would have an amazing student life and it is the one of the BEST SCHOOLS on the west coast. I honestly wouldn't care where I will go and if you are applying to UC, I would suggest having the same mind-frame to avoid disappointment.

ANOTHER 3 TIPS ARE UP GUYS.

Hopefully I'm allowed to necro this topic, since it has some helpful information in the first post.

Anyone wishing to go on exchange has to go to one of these info sessions:
http://studentexchange.unimelb.edu.au/StudentExchangeEvents.aspx

You should think about going earlier (eg. in Sem 2014) as it might be easier for you to get accepted (I assume less people apply for Sem 1, lol).
Graduated in 2011.
