Virtualisation + having gcc running make -j 4 or 8 = shitloads of RAM.
otherwise RAM are cheap enough nowadays.

Ahhh, virtualisation, of course :P

I am actually pondering whether to dual boot Arch Linux and Windows 7 or run Windows 7 inside a VM.
Need to iron out the merit and demerits of both anyway.

My old box will be relegated to a router/server box which does minimal things such as giving a hand in compling in distcc (oh yes make -j 9)  or having a dual stack network at home.
I might get cacti to run again to monitor stuff. Heck I want a SNMP capable weather station so I can monitor weather at home.

Almost definitely dual boot - the only benefit of VM is simultaneously running the two.

I'm pretty sure that with some virtualisation software, you can use Windows from a dual boot as a VM, so you get the benefits of both.

I think I am going dual boot because I do want to fire up gcc occasionally.

Windows 8 has a cute new BSOD screen :D

Tried overclocking that E5504 to 2.8, didn't want to at that voltage.
