EDIT: The book has just been completed!
Guys, I just thought I'd let you know that the 2013 guide is currently in the process of being written and will most likely be released before school starts.
The two books will most likely be: Tests and Examinations, Model and Detailed Solutions.
The topic tests will be very similar to the old editions, with some questions edited or removed, and other questions shuffled in. There will be only one topic test per topic - hence the topic tests will be between 60 and 90 minutes. There are 12 tests in total:
Toolbox
U3AOS1T1 - Gravimetric and Volumetric Analysis
U3AOS1T2 - Instrumental Analysis
U3AOS2T1 - General Organic Chemistry
U3AOS2T2 - Organic Chemistry: IR, NMR and MS analysis
U3AOS2T3 - Biochemistry
U4AOS1T1 - Reaction Kinetics
U4AOS1T2 - Equilibria
U4AOS1T3A - Industrial Chemistry: Sulfuric Acid
U4AOS1T3B - Industrial Chemistry: Nitric Acid
U4AOS1T3C - Industrial Chemistry: Ammonia
U4AOS2T1 - Energy Sources and Thermochemistry
U4AOS2T2 - Electrochemistry
The examinations will be a combination of the examination questions from the old books with some new questions written and some questions integrating Unit 3 and Unit 4 knowledge. In particular, there will be a greater emphasis on paragraph and extended response questions, as the sample VCAA exam has indicated that there will be a greater focus on explain-style questions. Hence, I will be writing at least one 6-8 mark extended response question per exam.
There will be 4 examinations; the specifics will be as below:
Examination 1: 2.5 hours, 30 MCQ, 12 SAQ = 98 marks, Total 128 marks.
This examination will be on the easy side; within VCAA standard, but on the easy level.
Examination 2: 2.5 hours, 30 MCQ, 10 SAQ = 100 marks, Total 130 marks.
This examination will be slightly more challenging, about medium-VCAA standard.
Examination 3: 2.5 hours, 30 MCQ, 11 SAQ = 99 marks, Total 129 marks.
This examination will be on the harder side of VCAA level.
Examination 4: 3 hours, 30 MCQ, 12 SAQs = 160 marks, 190 marks total.
This examination will be extremely challenging and will extend your problem solving skills to solve the most difficult of VCAA-style questions, whilst requiring knowledge only from within the Year 12 course.
There will also be a TOOLBOX section at the start of Book 1, which takes you through the necessary calculation skills to allow you to solve the calculations questions accurately and QUICKLY.
Book 1 is 246 pages, Book 2 is 426 pages.
