Do you need 3 A+ for a 40? I don't understand, if SACS are all about ranking then why does the VCAA website have statistics which say you must get between x-x (e.g. 92-100) for an A+. For a subject which I've decided I'm going to put ALOT of effort into because I've found its my new love and joy, I got 82/100 which is equivalent to an A but wouldn't that limit by ability in getting a 40? I'm ranked top 5 with very little effort up until this point, and I'm sure I'll get to about rank 2 by the end of the year because I'm not going to drop many more marks but I just don't get this 40 business. I'd love a 45 but 40 seems a stretch.

My friend scored 41 in Psychology with a B+ A+ A+.

Yeah, I got A+, A+ and B+ for History Rev's and got 36. Was literally crying when I received this. The exam was just weird because even though they say that: "if there is a hard question, it is a hard question for everyone" this is not necessarily true for Revolutions. The piece on China I had to analyse killed my chances of getting the 40 and hardly any schools do Rev's in China (for good reason). I knew as soon as I walked out the exam room that I stuffed up.

Seriously hate VCE. I remember that I read heaps of books on China and France, the mock exam I did very well but the assessors just had to include a foreign Chinese piece which was never assessed in previous exams.

If your exam is worth ≥50% of your SS for whatever the subject may be, then your SACs really mean nothing.

is this true?

Nah, someone from Business Management last year got A+, A+ and A for a 41. I guess it scales down a little though

is this true?

I wouldn't think so. From memory the exams are normally about 66% of your SS unless it changed, meaning SAC's will still make up a decent portion. Even though each individual SAC isn't worth too much, collectively they are quite important.

Differs from subject to subject.
English is 50%, Chem 60%, Methods 66% (44% for tech active, 22% for tech free)
I know that at the higher end SACs do mean a lot, so I wouldn't say they mean nothing...but I guess you don't need full marks on SACs since they're subject to scaling anyway. Even disregarding the %, exam is much much more significant than SACs is probably what he was trying to say.

Is it true that with a Year 11 study score and doing a Year 12 subject, that the scaling can be modified based on how the cohort goes next year?

Nah, your score is scaled according to the year you took the subject
