valid logic but i usually feel alot more comfortable in exams if i start solving multi choice in my head through reading time, and by the end of the 15 minutes reading time you can often finish the whole thing, then when writing time starts spend like 2-3 minutes filling out the answers and confirming there werent any tricks in the question. then its basically a full exam of ER and short answer

But you can't really do this in Methods because a LOT of the MC questions require calculations/what not, so it's really sort of pointless in reading time. I reckon reading the ER is of essence in this circumstance.

I just want to gain as many marks as possible from the ER questions as possible out of the 58 available, and then do MC (where as you said if worst comes to worst I can guess some). I'd rather guess SOME MC than have to guess a LOT of ER.

^^ good approach. It's much harder to gain marks from extended answer than multichoice, and honestly it really is just a waste of time reading through multichoice in reading time. Good luck Yacoubb, I know you're gonna smash this ! :)

This can work too. But the risk with this is that sometimes when writing time starts, it's possible to forget what answers you've selected [unless you cheat..which NO ONE should be doing] and hence you waste even more time. By all means, go with what makes you feel comfortable and will help YOU succeed on the day, because ultimately this is all about YOU.
I was offering my input that is all, not necessarily saying that my way is better than yours. Good luck to all of you though !

If anyone cares; When I do practice exams at home I neglect reading time just cause I can't sit here 15minutes doing nothing except reading - especially when I don't print them out. So I set my phone timer to 2hours and begin straight away going through MC then into ER - however if theres a MC question that takes over like a minute and I don't even know how to begin I just skip it (I just did 2012 VCAA and left 3 questions in MC to come back to later).

MC in total takes on average 30 minutes for me. Personally in reading time I'm probably going to glance over ER and just shit myself, then I'll spend last 5minutes of it looking at MC cause I feel like working through it in order is best for me. Do you think it's a downside that I haven't done any at home with reading time?

Thanks Yacoubb, I am really gonna need it ! :P

Guys, I'm getting under 20/40 for exam 1 [methods], is it possible for me to push this up to at least a 30 or not ? I'm aiming for a raw 30, 35 would be a dream but I doubt it's gonna happen. This is for someone who strongly despises math and is not a strong math student AT ALL. I find myself leaving a couple questions blank altogether, and honestly making tonnes of stupid mistakes. And I haven't done anything time bound but have exhausted all the VCAA ones already. Is it worth redoing them under timed conditions or not ? Much thanks :)

For me personally, I find that the bulk of questions I'm getting right, slipping 1-3 marks on exam 1s because of things like silly mistakes. So, what I'll do is focus on that (which is my weakness). What you should do is narrow in on your Achilees heel, and make sure you properly learn how to either avoid the silly mistakes, and for other questions, what approach you should take. You can definitely raise that to a 30 by narrowing in on the things you don't know how to do. E.g. if it's a hence question for calculating the anti-derivative, review the solutions to a question that has been provided, and logically think out HOW the answer has been reached. What have the actually done? That way, you're not memorising a formula, you're understanding the mechanics of the question, which I think is the integral part (no pun intended) of Methods!

:)

Nothing like a nice bit of confidence for you day  :)  Got 82.5% on the VCAA 2012 exam 2..Above the A+ cutoff! (Although it was the second time I've done it...Last time was 2 months ago though). Especially uplifting since I crashed and burned on the exam 1 2012 that I did this morning too. Just gotta keep it up now!

fair enough if you feel comfortable doing that, but my logic is
you can't really do this in Methods because a LOT of the MC questions require calculations/what not, so it's really sort of pointless in reading time.
VCAA ER tends be quite wordy imo, so I dedicate my reading to ER, but I understand your point of view, that confidence from doing MC helps you and a whole 1hr 45 mins is a LOT of time, so if you're not having issues with time management then your approach is viable.

If anyone cares; When I do practice exams at home I neglect reading time just cause I can't sit here 15minutes doing nothing except reading.

yeah it's probably best if you stop doing that. reading time is really important in terms of time management

No I said I'm reading ER during reading time...I meant you don't need to look at MC.
