Haha I've caught myself doing this also - it does make a conversation more interesting if you analyse it.
Yes, it does, doesn't it? (interrogative tag, right there) It's so awkward when you're there analysing a conversation and miss the meaning of the initial point. Then you say, "I'm sorry, could you repeat that?" and the other interlocutor looks at you like you're an alien from Mars. Very awkward. Especially with your immediate social circle, where language, as we know it, assists in building and maintaining face and social relationships.
I'm confused on how "weaknesses" builds rapport between the participants? Other than the suffix contributing to the informal register (SE lexis however contextual) I don't see it
*shrugs* I typed that on a whim in like 5 minutes and didn't check it all that well. I just used the first thing that came up on my English Language radar. I really should have refined that comment more.
This made my week. What an exciting life I lead.
Wait... was that sarcasm over the 'net? I don't understand. Dang that lack of paralinguistic features (body language) *mumbles to self incomprehensibly, starts muttering in other languages*Ahaha... it really isn't, but I guess anything beats poor Yvette's life at this point. Working twice as hard as Xavier ain't fair. (As my friend would say: "How much Further to go?" and this is a mild pun.)
Guys! Stop making me wish my school offered English Language. It seems so much better than English itself.
Anything is better than English itself.
100% agree.
Actually, English exams a lot less brutal than English Language is. So you guys have got the upper hand.
Banning myself from every website tomorrow (including this) to see if I actually do something worthwhile rather than just watch TV shows ... I have to cram an entire course of legal studies in 6 days and do a tonne of practice exams and get a 40! F***!
*waves farewell* We'll still be here. If you would like, we can act as your make-shift big sisters/ brothers and yell at you to get off if you fail to do so. Good luck! I should probably do the same thing to be brutally honest...
