Yeah I'm struggling too. I made friends with a couple of people today but the chances of them being in any of my classes are like 0

Technically the iphone 5s could last you like 10+ years

I've never encountered any device which doesn't start to break down after 2 to 3 years of use (at least since widespread use of smartphones), it's still usable but it may be a button or a chip of some sort which stops working and makes the phone more difficult to use, eventually to the point where you give up and buy a new one. I think iPhones are particularly notorious - I recently bought a new iPhone because the broken volume button and lock button became too annoying - the broken volume button would was somewhat immaterial but the lock button was a pain to not have.

I have made quite a few friends already, getting to know people wasn't as difficult as I thought it was going to be.
It may seem scary to go up to some complete random and introduce yourself for the first time but once you get used to it it's totally fine since the chances are they are looking for friends too!
From my very limited experience, the easiest way to keep in contact with them is to add them on fb when you feel like you're familiar enough with them. Works every single time, everyone is very welcoming and happy to have more friends (especially if they're a first year)
2012-2014: VCE (baccalaureate)
2015-2017: Bachelor of Commerce @ The University of Melbourne

Exactly this, because everyone else is out to make friends as well.
Just skip the initial awkwardness and say anything. There is nothing wrong you can do by introducing yourself, or saying hi, or commenting on how that lion on south lawn gives great hugs.

Really great news ! That cute insta picture ? :P

It's not that I'm afraid to talk to randoms (I do it on a daily basis :P), it's just that the people in my course are not friendly. At all. Hence I've made friends at uni, just not in my course. Which actually really sucks..tutes are gonna be interesting :/

As for keeping in contact, I just asked people for their number and then just started texting them :P
Of course, this only works if both of you have passed that awkward "I don't know what to say" phase haha. I haven't added anyone on Facebook just because I find it too intrusive amongst other personal reasons. Numbers are much easier I find :)

Exactly this, because everyone else is out to make friends as well.
