I remember when I had to get glasses, I was partially happy because I could never see board notes, and glasses would help me do so, but after wearing them for a few times, I didn't like the look because it just made me look and feel uglier, and I always felt that people were staring at me. What made it worse was that I felt guilty because the glasses actually looked nice and it was a $500 designer frame.

I don't want to sound mean because I know that I'm not the only one who has ever not been happy with glasses but I am going to look so ugly argh

Well what would I do?
I would try out contact lenses, but well some people are allergic to it or get an eyeache or some shit like that.
If that is the case I'll just turn hipster haha

Ah crap - yeah contact lenses are the best for this kind of thing!

Haha, yeah I remember trying on glasses and they all looked crap on me. Finally found one pair that suited me.

When I first got glasses they looked really bad, but you just adjust and they start to look good (obviously i've gotten new ones since). I don't wear mine all the time though. And I'd like to get contacts because glasses can be a hassle. In terms of appearance, they don't really look ugly id you just have to get ones that suit you. I've found I can't wear glasses which aren't square or too bulky. You're going to need a pair of glasses even if you have contacts.

This was me in year 9, I hated having to think of getting glasses as I could never see the white board unless I was in the first row. I always tried to squirt to see and that was always embarrassing as everyone would always look at me weirdly and think "what the hell is this guy doing?"

Unforutnaltely I never really suited any glasses, both the expensive or cheap ones, so I just got the cheaper ones and only used them when I had to. The thought of people thinking that you always had good eyes, and all of sudden seeing you in glasses does make you feel insecure and basically ugly. But there is no other way to hide it, you need glasses to see so there's nothing you can do about it. The question is do you want your learning in year 12 to be the best? The only way to really enhance it is to see the board and the only way to do that is to use your glasses to see!

So remember glasses are just for you to see the board and help your learning.

I only got glasses six months ago (probably from studying too much). Luckily I only have to wear them when I need to see things at a distance (eg in class when I'm not sitting near the front, or the cinema) but I remember 4-5 people getting glasses at around the same time as I did. I think there might be some correlation between studying and the need for glasses.

Anyway, I advise you to keep shopping around. Your optometrist should allow you to take your prescription elsewhere and take the time to find a frame that suits you. I'm personally a bit wary of contact lenses due to the irritation they may cause as well as the increase in the chances of infection. Other than that, you'll just have to get used to a new face.

I've been wearing glasses for way too long now.. I think you just adjust to them after a while and they become normal. Look really weird without glasses now.. I remember when  I tried using contacts, but they kept falling out (lol), so i gave up and started wearing glasses again

Also, one person's contacts in my Year 10 Geography class moved on top of his eye and it hurt like hell. Scared me off contacts ever since. :|

I think you should consider contact lenses. It is not that scary, honestly. But it does depend on the person. Unless you have a phobia, or especially sensitive eyes you'll be fine. I know a lot of people who use them daily.

It's not scary putting them in, and once they are in, you can't feel anything at all.

Didju know Novak Djokovic wears contacts? random fact.

I'm probably going to get contacts in the future. To wear probably once/twice a week.

Also, the annoying moment when you watch a 3D movie and have to put the 3D glasses on top of your glasses. Grr.
And when you're drinking soup and your glasses get fogged up.
Or when glasses take the enjoyment out of walking in the rain because you can't see.

Yeah I'll get contacts when I actually need the glasses

You can look just as cool with glasses as you do with sunglasses.
Plus you get your eyesight back.
It's all in the mind :)

I hated my glasses and the way I looked in Grade 6. But as I got older, I hit much better frames and started loving the way I looked. Now I wear contacts if I'm going out.
Contacts are fun to wear :D
Definitely look in to it. And they e never rolled to the tip/back of my eye and I've been wearing them for 2 years.
