Nooooo don't scare me, also it's just annoying that I don't feel like I need them

Contacts are fine for most people, they feel weird at first but you get used to them after a while :)

I used them for a couple of months but now I just wear glasses because they're more convenient

I was really happy when I got my glasses - it's all about getting the right frames for your face
If you're picky like me, I suggest shopping online to get the frames you want then getting your lenses done at your optometrist. The only problem is not being able to try on the frames before buying them I suppose  ???

You can even get lens done online. Just go to the optometrist to get a prescription :)
You can also get a rebate from your purchase like any other optical store.

I think there might be some correlation between studying and the need for glasses.

My optometrist has said something like this too. I'm the same (I have myopia too) and she encourages me to take a break every once and a while from studying for about a minute to just look out in the distance e.g. the windows. Remember to take your glasses off when you're studying though!

Unlikely to respond to any PMs these days.

I'm not even going to lie, I skipped the responses in this thread but I'm just gonna throw it out there - I find glasses on girls super attractive. (not to say I prefer them over no glasses.)

I think my glasses actually suit me. They're comfy as too, I only need them for things close up but sometimes I forget I still have them on! They took me a little getting used to, so just persist.

I've had glasses since Year 2. My eyes are pretty terrible.

I find that thicker frames suit my face, rather than thinner ones.

You really shouldn't wear contact lenses every day, they can change your cornea and things like that which can be bad for you later on

I'm with OlympianLegend, they can look pretty cute on girls. Anyway, most of the time people aren't repeating over and over in their head "they have glasses on, they have glasses on...", unless you're taking them off and on every few seconds, they just get used to seeing them on your face like you would someones haircut or something, you lose notice of them.

I don't think anyone really likes wearing them in the first place but you grow into it. I know absolutely heaps of people at uni do (wasn't there some correlation between IQ points and glasses?) and it's absolutely nothing. That and if someone judges you for wearing glasses, you probably would want to avoid them in the first place, all kinds of red flags there..

Just go to the shop and they can help you pick out a pair that looks good (if you get staff that actually care anyway).

Make sure you can peer over your glasses. Else it is pointless to have them.

Same here. I get that sense "wow she looks intelligent and quite attractive! might ask her on a study date before asking her out :P "

Actually to be honest, only get contacts if you:
  • Play lots of sports, and therefore need them and you should get them
  • your eyesight has steadied and does not get worse throughout the year like mine (note this only refers to those who do not buy the disposable lenses and buy the ones you reuse for more than 3 months or so. These are not predominately used that often)
  • you are scared that the lenses may stick to your eyes and make your eyes even worse.

Don't worry fishandchips, you will get used to glasses. (if you don't decide to get contacts).

When I first learnt that I needed glasses, I nearly cried. My first pair looked just absolutely horrible on me and I hated them. Then I found a pair that suited me. It changed my life.

And now, I will not go anywhere without glasses because
a.) I am very likely to walk into a glass door with the eyesight I have
b.) I just look weird without them
