Getting the latest Android release pushed to your handset appears to be a matter of chance as far as I can tell. iOS is straight away.
Google Play has very few of the apps I want, because nobody wants to port them from iOS because the different handsets have different compatibilities and your market is fragmented.

If you're going to root/custom firmware your phone then sure.

The 13" doesnt have a retina screen and has the terrible 1280 x 800 resolution. Also no dedicated graphics card and is thicker and heavier than the new macbook pros.
For $1349 you can get something with much MUCH MUCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH better specs albeit a tiny bit heavier

There is a 13" retina. There is no dedicated graphics, but I don't see a need for it given the Ivy Bridge GPU performs reasonably well. I acknowledge that it still doesn't compare to a dedicated GPU, but then who the hell is going to buy a Mac to play games? Beside games, I cannot think of a single valid reason for needing a dedicated GPU.

And I'm saying that dedicated graphics card is pointless for doing real work. Macbooks are not multi-purpose machines for gaming enthusiasts (read: most computer enthusiasts). They are for people who has lots of work, and no time for the usual bullshit that is associated with a 'normal' laptop.

Despite what Apple marketing says (their job is to fool people to buy their product), the actual value of a Macbook is not in its specs or the usual hardware. It's in the integration of different components, and how each component is built to the same high quality. I challenge you to find an ultrabook with the same quality touch-pad, battery life, chasis (read: not plastic) & audio output. I will even forgo the software and aesthetics. Can you find a better spec laptop, with the same form factor, with the same portability, at a lower price than macbooks?

Agreed. All macs also seemed to have very good DAC's for audio. Personally, I also liked the feel of the plastic macbooks from ages ago too I think it's the "unibody" that I'm impressed with most.

No. Macbooks haven't held that title for a while. There are several ultrabooks that beat it at battery life, though it comes at a price: a shit screen (oh, and no dedicated graphics of course).

You can't really compare newer ultrabooks with Macbooks anymore, because of the Windows 8 'tablet' thing, where everyone is putting capacitive touch screen on their laptops now, and so this extra 'functionality' adds costs and values that cannot be compared. I am still ideologically against the idea of tablets though (ever since the iPad made its debut).

What's your beef with tablets?

They are useful for games like Fruit Ninja, and that's about it. I used to think they would be good for maths, until I discovered LaTeX. I also used to think they would be good for drawing (e.g. graphs, diagrams), until I actually tried and everything just looked terrible. As far as productive work goes, we still need a keyboard. And I'll slap a bitch if she tries to put her dirty fingers on my screen.
