compared to the MBA it is a bit bigger too

compared to the MBP Retina, it is at least 700 bucks cheaper (from where I bought it, think its still $1200)

The trackpad cannot compare to the Macbook range (first hand experience from a friend). The audio does not compare. The screen, even though high resolution (less than retina in pixel count, higher than retina in display resolution), lacks vivid colour. Other aspects such as battery life and CPU benchmarks are slightly worse, but not by an amount that's worth mentioning. Nevertheless, it is still worse than the Retina in every way. The same goes for the Samsung 9 and HP Envy.

I won't get myself into an argument about whether these differences are worth $700 (accessories and options in a new BMW can cost more than an entire Toyota).

Anyways, the choice between Apple and non-Apple is usually a lot simpler. It depends on which OS the person is more familiar with. It's very hard to switch from one to another.

They are useful for games like Fruit Ninja, and that's about it. I used to think they would be good for maths, until I discovered LaTeX. I also used to think they would be good for drawing (e.g. graphs, diagrams), until I actually tried and everything just looked terrible. As far as productive work goes, we still need a keyboard. And I'll slap a bitch if she tries to put her dirty fingers on my screen.

I think tablets are great for little things like basic web browsing, email, Facebook and instant messaging clients like Skype. I agree that tablets aren't very good for productivity however.

Basically, activities that do not demand the power of a notebook or desktop. Think of the Asus transformer tablets actually. They're a great example, essentially a tablet but once you pop it onto a dock, it can do many things a netbook can.

I disagree. Personally, I think it's very easy, having done it myself. But are you talking about learning curve or just find it hard to want to switch?

I found it easy too, but most people don't. It's more that OSX and Windoze have different paradigms about how to do things (e.g. taskbar vs expose).

Fair enough, I guess other would have issues with that. I think apple actually had a set of videos to help people switch over.

That's it. http://www.apple.com/support/macbasics/

it is fairly clear that this thread is intended to show how superior you are to pc 'plebs' who are much poorer than you and as such cannot afford computers as good as yours. have you considered that maybe no one cares as much as you do and that you are not any better for having demonstrated your clear inherent superiority over them. it is inappropriate and a show of poor character to find satisfaction in berating people because they cannot or choose not to afford a more expensive computer than otherwise necessary. this thread would be a better contribution to the world if it were for providing technical help rather than belittling others

Do you find that you miss the taskbar in OSX? Or is that just me? I've never really used the "launch pad".

Nope. I use 'Alfred' to launch everything. It's kinda like spotlight but on steroids.

Developing on a Mac is such a pain though ( by this I mean programming ). I'm just spoiled using Ubuntu :(

Though if I got a macbook the first thing I would do is remove the Mac partition and install both Windows/Linux on top - you get the best of both worlds imo.

I'm not a programming guru by any means but don't you need to be running OSX to program for iOS?

You do. But that's only if you want to program for iOS.
