Bachelor of Business and Comerce @ Gippsland

Hey guys,

I was just having a look at the different options I can take at Monash in the Business degrees, considering I haven't done Mathematical Methods, and came across this degree; Bachelor of Business and Commerce. I'm also aware that this degree is available only at Gippsland and has the following pre-requisites:

Units 1 and 2-two units (any study combination) from general mathematics or mathematical methods (CAS) or Units 3 and 4-mathematics (any). Units 3 and 4-a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English.

SO just a few questions are coming into mind and I'm hoping someone could answer them:

- Is this a double degree?
- If so, why is the ATAR requirement only 71+ considering Commerce or Business at Clayton/Caulfield have a 90+ (Comm) and 80+ (Bus) requirement?
- Is it better to do the Bachelor of Business at Caulfield/Clayton or make a move to Gippsland and undertake this degree?

Thanks!

In answer to your 3 questions:
1. Yes, it is a legitimate double degree.
2. All of the Gippsland courses have low ATAR entries. The main reason for this isn't the course, but rather the location. Not many people want to move to Gippsland, which is why the degree is fairly unpopular, which is why the ATAR requirements are so low.
3. How much does location mean to you? Could you comfortably live in Gippsland for 4 years? If so, then go for it. Otherwise, go with the 3 year degree at Caulfield/Clayton.
2012 ATAR - 86.75
2013 ATAR - 88.50
2014: BSci (Statistics) at RMIT
2015 - 2017: BCom at UoM

If you do well, you also have a good chance of transferring either to another monash course (ie. commerce at clayton) or to another university; after 1st yr. a colleague of mine in my micro tute came from monash gippsland.

If the course is offered at Gippsland, then chances are its also available by Distance Ed, which means you can do the whole course online from your own house and only have to go to the exams - which you can nominate to be in Caulfield like the others.

Hope this helps :)
