- A decent diary (sometimes school ones don't suffice)
- A clean desk
- Wanting to do well (e.g. willing to use some recess times/ lunch times to consult teachers etc.)
- Confidence helps too

TRUE. I want a study buddy, but all my close friends do subjects that are essentially "opposite" to mine :(

I would've said look on AN, but your subjects are kind of unique.
At least for English, you could study with your nossal-friends, but yeah Asian Five gives people a greater opportunity.

It's helpful to have:

  • A calendar, so you can plot all your SAC/exam/social dates
  • A gym membership (that you'll actually use, of course :P ), otherwise you'll go stir-crazy
  • A good paper-filing system
  • Noise-cancelling headphones (if you can find them) - these are perfect for those who don't study with music, but can't stand the kids who talk incessantly in the Monash library. You know who you are.

Edit: Whiteboards are also really, really useful, as someone mentioned earlier.
