Hey, so basically my plan is to do BsC with intentions of getting into postgraduate MD course or DDS. I also wouldnt mind optometry, I'm into the health sciences really..
But I don't know if I'll manage a 65 or whatever gamsat score you need and the high GPA they require to get into that graduate entry pathway.
So as a backup, I am considering doing subjects in order to do Engineering - mechanical or biomedical... (not sure which one yet, have to decide depending upon employability chances and career options, would prefer bioeng though).

From research and people, i have to do the following subjects in first year.

Chem1  Bio1  Calc 2     ESD 1
Chem2  Bio2  Lin Alg    ESD2

assuming this is correct, 2 of my breadth subjects get taken up in first year.

then second year I have to do my MD prereqs - anatomy, physiology and biochem.. and then my engineering Prereqs, which I dont know much about.

Anat1  Biochem1  Phys1         eng subs
           Biochem2  Phys2         eng subs

then 3rd year,
dont know much what i have to do except the major.
which i have a feeling has to be something to do with engineering, not med.
cause i liked the sound of 'Microbiology, Infection and Immunology'

Question is whether these subject selections are actually possible, and if someone has done this pathway on AN, if they could advise me on what their subjects were in order to do engineering (mechanical or biomedical).

Keep in mind that you don't have to do the ESD subjects to do grad engineering - this is only if you want to do grad engineering in 2 years after BSc. If you don't do ESD, I think you can still do Eng, but it will be 3 years.

Wow, okay, thanks bro, :) (p.s where are you these days? haha)

so i dont have to do esd 1 or 2 to do engineering subjects in second year?
because yeah, im pretty sure i have to do either a mechanical systems major in order to do mechanical eng, or bioengineering systems in order to do biomedical engineering.

I know very little from the engineering side of things, but in second year you only have to do these three subs for MD prereqs:
-Principles of Human Structure
-Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
-Human Physiology

Should leave you with plenty of room for engineering subjects. :)

oo right so no 'techniques in biomolecular science' or 'research based physiology' ?
sweeeet haha

yeah it will I guess :)

Yes, Techniques and Research based are not part of the MD, DDS pre-requisites.

wonderful haha.

Looking at this link - http://www.eng.unimelb.edu.au/study/graduate/master-eng-biomedical.html
it seems that I must do the bioengineering systems major in order to get into masters of engineering.
Damn, microbiology immunology and infection major looked cool haha.

Wait, so.
I can do that major in microbiology, immunology and infection, and still do engineering (3 years) ?
lol.
my day just got gooooooooooooooooooooooooood.

I thought TREX meant I dont have to do ESD1 or ESD2 in first year... :p

Wheres the breadth subjects ( subjects outside science/biomedical ) fit in. I thought you couldn't do science as a breadth.
And that at least 50 units have to be breadth.
2011: Methods [40]  Chemistry [34]
2012: Global Politics [44] Specialist Maths [33] Physics [35] English [38]
ATAR: 97.10

2013-2015: Bachelor of Biomedicine (Neuroscience)  UoM
2017-2020: Doctor of Optometry UoM

Wheres the breadth subjects ( subjects outside science/biomedical ) fit in. I thought you couldn't do science as a breadth.
And that at least 50 units have to be breadth.

from the UoM website:
Breadth requirements for the Bachelor of Science are:

    A student can take up to 75 points (six subjects) of breadth study;
    A student must complete a minimum of 50 points (four subjects) of breadth study including at least 12.5 points at Level 2 or Level 3;
A student may complete a maximum of 37.5 points of breadth (three subjects) at Level 1.

so in first year it'd look like:
chem 1     bio1    calc2    breadth
chem 2     bio2    lin alg   breadth

second year:
human physiology    Biochemistry and Molecular Biology       Principles of Human Structure                                                                                          breadth

Principles of               spare subject -- blah.. Experimental Microbiology                    spare subject... blah - Pharmacology: How Drugs Work              breadth
Microbiology and
Immunology

with the above subjects,
i can major in either...
microbiology, immunity and infection
human structure and function
or
pharmacology

with 2 breadths available..

if
-Principles of Human Structure
-Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
-Human Physiology

are the med and dds prereqs, does that mean that you could do them as breadth in an arts or commerce degree? just curious

I'd think you would have to do the first year biology subjects  (2) and the first year chemistry subjects (2), so no idea how that could work as breadth units :S
