Who's coming to Government House on Wednesday?
« on: January 21, 2013, 12:18:12 pm »
From what I gathered from this thread from last year (Who got the invitation to govenment house? ), a bunch of people with high ATARs and/or study scores of 50 (I'm still not sure about the criteria) are invited to celebrate Australia Day at Government House.

I'll be going this year. Anyone else going to be there?

Congratulations!

I'm also wondering what's the criteria to get invited.

By the way, how was it?  ;D

Thanks!

I think the most likely theory about the criteria is the Victorian nominations for the Australian Student Prize, or maybe Premier's awards. Perhaps someone who went last year could shed more light on this?

There were also people from the army, police, and other such noble professions. Makes my own contribution as a mere student seem very insignificant.

It wasn't really anything special, though. Free food and drinks (main reason I went), speeches from the premier and the governor (whom you may meet and take photos with, if you wish), tour of Government House. Mostly stuff you can do during the annual Open Day, anyway, just with fewer people around.

Unless Year 11s weren't invited, I guess that means I dropped a mark on my exam somewhere... XD

Hmm, after checking through last year's thread, that doesn't seem to be the case...

I have no idea anymore. Maybe they just randomly picked a number of students with high ATARs or study scores through some kind of lottery system.

I think this is possible. (And this would make it related to the Australian Student Prize, which is based off of raw study scores.)
