Very helpful I thought! As somebody who was completely unsure on what direction to take their degree and what subjects to take, I'm very glad I attended.

And yes, as everybody else has said, MUCH perving occurred.... Looks like I'll definitely be taking something from the Arts faculty as breadth ;)

Warning: he's not that good of a physics teacher. Tries a bit too hard to be funny and doesn't spend enough time actually teaching.
Seconded.

Also, I would un-recommend Critical Thinking with Data. Main lecturer is very tedious to listen to, same boring case studies discussed ad nauseum, way too many assignments. A lot of the material, particularly in the second half of the semester, is very self-evident (to me at least)

Could you tell me a bit more about Critical Thinking? I was going to choose it but I'm a bit unsure now. Is the main lecturer the Robert guy with glasses and greyish hair (bad description lol) who cracks heaps of jokes? He showed us some slides about Iraqi civilian casualties, elephants reacting to buzzing bees, the Challenger rocket explosion and some newspaper articles. It looked like a bit of fun, but I do agree that quite a bit of it was fairly "self-evident". How many assignments did you get? :/

One of the best reasons to make friends at uni is just incase they happen to be at the front of a BBQ line. True story.

I (mostly) had a guy called Ian who was not only boring, but somewhat full of himself. So quite possibly this Robert guy is new and likely to make the subject more interesting than it was for me.

And from the handbook:
"Three written assignments due at regular intervals during semester amounting to a total of up to 600 words (15%), 15 on-line assessment tasks at regular intervals during semester (20%), a group project involving production of a poster and a 4-minute oral presentation due after mid-semester (10%), one 1200 word written assignment due at the end of semester (15%), and a 2 hour written examination in the examination period (40%)."

Enough said.

Whoa, that sounds like a heavy load for just one subject... Might do Anthropology instead. Thanks for your advice!

That's nothing compared to what you're expected to do in any graduate school. Here's a rundown of assessments I had to do in one 12.5 point EDUC9XXXX unit last semester:

1. Drama group performance (10 minutes).
2. Critical commentary on aforementioned drama performance (500 words).
3. Music group performance (10 minutes).
4. Critical commentary on aforementioned music performance (500 words).
5. Art folio of ~15 artworks, including a description of the medium and techniques used for each artwork, a list of extension activities and a critical response to each weekly reading ("1300 words," which ended up turning into 3000-4000 words for most students due to the insane amount of work required).
6. Drama unit plan (1250 words).
7. Music unit plan (1250 words).
8. A review of a drama performance by the Melbourne Theatre Company (500 words).

Needless to say, I nearly died. And yes, I repeat, that's ONE unit.
