Steriotypical englang vs english help-a-brother-out thread

Hey, my friend recently decided that they wouldn't do english language with me this year, and instead chose to go with regular english because it was familiar to them and they knew they could succeed without much effort. I'm wondering if I should make the same decision. I'm a solid maths/science type student so the whole idea that englang was better-suited towards such a student strongly encouraged me to choose the subject over regular english. BUT, I ended up getting my GAT results and got a 49 in the english component, which is fairly good compared to my more average maths component. My parents have said it would be far better just to do regular english because I'll have no trouble doing well but I really dropped the ball in english last year as it simply didn't entice me as much as my other subjects and therefore took a back seat with my studying (I have serious work-ethic issues). So what I'm trying to say is; should I keep enlang on the hope that it's content is interesting enough to warrant long study hours OR switch to the far less captivating regular-english on the hope that it doesn't demand nearly as much devotion for a good study score? My other subjects are methods, physics, chem and softdev. BTW I did legal 3/4 last year and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. I resented the subject's content and if it wasn't my only year 12 class, I think I would have neglected it far more. Also I haven't done englang 1/2.

I've only done English Language, so I can't really compare the two, but I'll tell you what I think about the subject.

The content in English Language 3/4 really isn't extremely interesting (unless you're keen on linguistics), but I found that I didn't have to study that much for it because it was mostly analytical stuff that came naturally to me. I personally feel like the workload in mainstream English seems rather more painful and tiring from what I've heard, but it all depends on the type of person you are and what you're more comfortable doing, I guess.

Generally speaking, maths/science students are better suited to English Language, but everyone's different, so it's really hard to judge. You should still be able to do well in English Language without having done 1/2, especially if you're into critical analysis. But if you're into more broader thinking, then by all means stick with regular English.

I'd say let go of the hope that you'll get a good study score in English without devotion or interest and then decide.
✌️just do what makes you happy ✌️

If you go in to mainstream English with the attitude that it will require no devotion or commitment, prepare to get bombarded by books, the natural enemy of laziness.

That or you can get the best of both worlds by doing both   ;D

That is if you decide to let go of a subject....

Otherwise, ask your teachers!  ;)
