Which physics subject to choose
« on: January 28, 2013, 06:33:02 pm »

I'm currently deciding between Physics 2: Life sciences and environments and Physics 2: Physical science and technology. I'm only doing physics so it will assist me in the GAMSAT and i'm wondering which one will benefit me more, also I've never done physics and i am planning to do Physics 1: Fundamentals in semester 1.

Any advice would be appreciated! thanks :)

I was under the assumption that VCE Physics was all that is required for the GAMSAT, in that case Physics 1: Fundamentals + some extra reading on electromag should be fine.

I agree with Hancock, but if you're keen, then physics 2: life sciences and environments will definitely help for the gamsat.

I think physics1 is more related to the gamsat physics topics you have to know. Might chose that one since i slacked off in 3/4 physics.

I think biomed students are required to take Life sciences and environments, so.. that one? :O

Yes, but i believe JV-12 will already be undertaking physics fundamentals in semester 1, and he was choosing between the other two for semester two.
That's what I inferred from what he said.
But yes, fundamentals would be good!

will 'Physics for Biomedicine' be enough for the GAMSAT?

Do you think physics is an easy subject to self study?

I self studied all of Physics 1 and 2 and good pretty marks for them. This was not by choice however (the lecturer wasn't too flash and tried to hard to be liked than actually teaching Physics). It did however, properly introduce me the idea of university independent learning. I think Physics would be one of the easier subjects to self study for, given that you buy a good book (Physics for Sci and Eng by Knight is amazing) and you do the problems and readings on your own initiative.

Remember, motivation is key for getting good grades and for learning in general. You have to really want to do it, and then you can achieve whatever you set out to do.
