Practice exam help..
« on: January 30, 2013, 03:02:38 pm »

So i just did my first medentry practice exam.. not too good:
23/48 S1
31/44 S2
18/42 S3
I'm not really sure what to say, pretty depressed  :( ... is this expected for my first practice exam with no exposure to material before? some people have told me that medentry is much harder than UMAT so yeah what do you think?
Also, i struggled a lot timewise.. in S3 and S1 especially (guessed at least a third of questions). I also did the exam in the full three hours given and so by S3 my brain was absolutely fried.. any tips on keeping concentrated?
Cheers guys for any help given  :)

Don't worry about it; medentry's material can be harder than the actual test. Focus on improving S3, because it is the easiest to improve once you learn more and more tactics and patterns.

You'll probably realise this sooner or later, but preparing for the other sections is insanely difficult.

Temporarily hijacking the thread here:
For medentry drills, is it okay to go 20-30 mins overtime? I just can't figure out how the problem-solving drills could be solved in 20min. I just did problem-solving drill 6, got 18/22 and took 47min? I'm getting worried about the time factor.  :-\

I think you need to treat UMAT practice like you would an English exam - try to perfect your technique first before making time an element to contend with.

Thanks mate, appreciate it.. Yeah I will keep trying harder and harder, especially with s3.. I've also heard its the easiest to improve. But my other problem is s1, not the actual content but the time.. I had to guess a lot is all.. But it'll come hopefully in time
Cheers

Hello!
First of all, I am new to this forum so please alert me of any mistakes I may make!

@Freshlord,
My personal advice to you is only based on my own experience and the experiences of some of my friends. When I did Medentry, similar to yourself, my results were appalling and I agree, completely depressing too. The most important thing to realize that you have a lot of time to improve be that through Medentry or of your own volition. It is vital not to lose confidence as the UMAT is a test in which the state of your mind plays a massive role.

If it is any consolation, when I did a Medentry practice exam on the workshop day my results placed me around the 40%ile, this was after quite a bit of practice too! However in the actual UMAT I did much better than this and it just goes to show that being disheartened is not the way to go. Just take any result you get given with a pinch of salt.

Good Luck,
Chop.

heya, dw too much about it mate - you're actually not doing too bad for someone who has had no prior exposure to UMAT material. Medentry is not necessarily harder than the real UMAT, so much as it is at times just plain right ridiculous. medentry S3 is quite good, but their S1 is just unrealistic and not very representative of the real UMAT - I also went shockingly overtime with medentry S1 and yes it is hard, so don't worry too much about that.

As with S3 - as everyone else pointed out here, it is the easiest to improve on, and with practice you are going to get much better at it - just keep at the S3 drills and you will notice improvement in the long run.
