Some schools do them at the very start of the year and others after the exams are done. :S I had mine on the last day of Term 2.

Same here! It was great having it the last day of term, convenient for the after party and all!! Some schools had it on a Thursday! Can't imagine too many people rocked up the next day.

Mine was on a Thursday too, but we got the next day off. That being said, a lot of people couldn't come with a partner because others had to go to their school the next day, so that sucked a bit.

My formal was last Saturday, and I can say truthfully that it was the best night that I had ever had.

I had a great time too. Leading up the event, I was a bit upset that I couldn't find anyone to go with me (for the reason stated above) and when I was getting ready after school I was a bit anxious and upset. Once I got to my friend's place though, all those feelings dissipated and I really had fun.

To anyone feeling a bit unsure about attending a formal on your own: it can actually work out better, particularly if you're inclined to ask people that you don't really know that well. This was the case with a lot of people at my formal, and it just made the night awkward and not as fun for them.

I'm already panicking  :P

What I don't get, however, is that the rest of my cohort is so chill about the approaching exams? It's like they still think exams are 6 months away? Or perhaps they are just avoiding the thought of exams? I don't know. Either way, people get annoyed when I strike up conversation about the German Oral or the English exam or something.

I reckon they're still chilling and don't want to panic yet. I don't blame them; panicking for two months would suck.

I think I was much like your cohort :P

My attitude: the exams are coming, let them come. Why stress over them when I could be studying for them (or procrastinating hahaha) instead?

I feel so poor. Paid for the HTAV lectures, paid for winter sleepout, paying for jumper, and finding enough money to pay $75 per person just to get to the valedictory dinner. Sigh.
