The exams affect your study score the most, don't get too concerned about SAC marks. You'll get desensitised soon. :)

hey how is everyone going, i have my first 2 sacs coming up this week, business management and sociology.
i havent studied for about a year but my motivation is sky high, i hope to get at least a 75-80 ATAR and from what ive research/read the first SACS wont be the end of the world if i do average on them. I was wondering if 3-4 hours a day/night is good enough study to get a high ATAR mark?

i had an epiphany and have really put my head in the books this week and plan to do the same for the rest of the year, im doing my VCE at a tafe so its probably different to how you guys do it.

if i could all please give me some advice on good study habits/routines to achieve a good ATAR mark i would be very greatful! i think i'll be posting on this forum more often as i need a good community like this.

Thanks! :)

Hey umirin!,

I've only had one SAC and that was for business management :) I know you'll do very well! It was/should have been very easy for me. I made a silly error which costed me greatly. Minimise your mistakes because 2-4 marks is a grade!

Honestly, that question is best answered by previous students, but from what I've heard, you should be reviewing what you learnt every day on the same day (or morning after), I do this before school as well. VCAA recommends 14 hours a fortnight but the vast majority here are against time bound studying and are more inclined to efficient study :) (I can't quite explain what that entails :P, best wait for the pro's)

There are a couple of threads floating around on how to study well, try searching for a couple :)

And please be posting, that's what we're here for, I'll continue ranting for sure.

Hows it going Machan, you're sri lankan eh? thats awesome

Did the SAC have the obvious questions like what is stakeholder, what is an organisation, macro, micro, LSO characteristics ?
I admit during the first 3 weeks i didnt study much at all beacause its been so long since i studied and that is probably me being lazy but this time i know i wont be going back to that :D.

I see, our teacher gave us a sheet for what we should study for regarding the SAC and ive just been writing it and saying it aloud and trying to memorise it because business is pretty much memorising the definitions lol.

keep ranting my friend, this place will motivate me for sure.

Heh, I'm Indian (Tamil) :)

I could try to remember some questions from my SAC..

They always asked "what are some characteristics of LSO's" So make sure you remember those!

One was asking what kind of business the company was (It was a case study type SAC), so they're looking for things like GBE's, private, public etc..

Also, there are questions on Stakeholders, we got asked to define what it is, give two examples of stakeholders relating to the case study and to also state where conflicts may occur.

There was also a question on the economical side of things. It asked to basically state one positive and one negative contribution to the environment. So you could say that it might boost the GDP of the country, and that they may start outsourcing to cheaper countries.

Then there was questions relating to KPI's, list a financial, and non financial KPI that the business could use to assess their goals. The goals were stated on the bottom of the case study and made it bleedingly obvious what to use. They talked about how they wanted to a profitable business, bam, net profit indicator and they wanted to promote staff satisfaction. Bam, staff satisfaction!

:) Hope this helps. Actually you know what... When is your SAC? I could scan and email you two of my practice SAC's if you'd like? They have the suggested solutions on them too. But I need to you to remind me because I'm forgetful. Ahahah

Haha they aren't the same, they just assess the same areas. And there's only so many ways they can articulate "What characteristics define an LSO" :P

So if you do heaps of practices, you'll definitely have done a lot of questions that my turn up on your SAC.

Can you PM me Monday afterschool? or around 6ish tonight? Because I'll be out for the day, and if you do it at 6, I'll have a notification that's hard to miss!!

ha! i thought so, i mentioned that i didnt really study much up until a week ago, do you think theres enough time to put my head int the books for the next few days? i've retained a pretty good amount of info/definitions i just need to keep revising the characteristics and do a few case study examples and just do them over.

i was also wondering if for example i just did average on these first wave of sacs (4 subjects) then i do very well or above average on all the other sacs/exams i can still get an ATAR above 80 right? from what i remember the first wave of sacs are only a small %, im still gonna study hard though

yeah no problem i'll PM you tonight

You most certainly can! I didn't do questions from the book actually. I just did two prac SAC's. I joined this class late so I missed 3 weeks of class (headstart) and the holidays for studying as well. So I also put my head down in the last few days :)

I don't wanna answer questions that I'm not too confident about haha. All I can say is that your marks go towards your whole unit marks. So unit 3 for bus man is out of 100 marks. This SAC will be out of 20. So there will be a certain score you'll need to achieve  the study score that requires that 80 ATAR.

Basically, doing well now, gives you more breathing space for errors later. That's why it's better to do well now since this SAC is definitely easier! That's what angered me :P That 2 marks was so easy! But that gives me 2 marks less to lose on a more difficult SAC later on!

great, looks like i can get a pretty good mark on this SAC and hopefully the others! my main focus is on business and sose which are this week.

yeah thats understandable haha, i dont mind if you werent accurate with the answer. hopefully some old school people will help me out with that Q, its an amazing feeling being away from studying for so long and actually studying, waking up the next day and remembering some of what you studied. not sure if you can relate but im not self doubting myself when it comes to education anymore :)
