Yep, apparently willingness to give up time next year, being a captain in high school and doing volunteer work on top of A+ grades didn't make the cut?  :'(

You'd be surprised how intense some of the other applicants are, don't take it to heart too much.

Oh my god....some 20 pages have been added to this page in the last couple of weeks or so.  :o

Serious question though, and thought it may be more fitting to post here than in the help/advice as I'm sure many of the Year 12s from this year would have the same problem.

I want to apply for a job and have no idea where to start. I lost my résumé (my computer crashed and couldn't be restored), am >18 and have had no working experience. Whatsoever. I kept in contact with my careers counsellor, who sent me some pretty useful stuff on writing up a new résumé and she has also advised me not to bother going to the place where I submit my application, as store managers etc. don't want to know about persistent applicants anymore; turns out that this no longer makes one stand out from the pack, but is instead rather quite annoying.

When I first started thinking about applying, I thought my only hope would be to work in some sort of department store around the Christmas period when the demand (especially for casuals) is high, but now, I think it may be too late.

Anyone have any suggestions/strategies regarding applying for jobs (as an inexperienced Year 12 student) or know of any places hiring?

Muchos gracias in advance.
If you don't know the answer to a question, chances are it has something to do with changing the surface area to volume ratio or resonance.

Hmm... it will be really difficult to find jobs now, because most workplaces have already done their hiring to make sure employees are fully trained in preparation for the summer months. Just try anywhere and see where it gets you.

Basically just going to anyone you might want to work for (walking around Chaddy is a good one) and handing out your CV, even if they're not currently hiring. Print out 20-50 copies and just walk up to the counter and ask if they'll hire you or at least keep your CV with them until they are hiring. You'll more than likely get an interview at a couple of places, and it's also a good way to learn what your options really are. It's easy to be close-minded and think that Maccas or K-Mart are the only places to work, but that's definitely not the case.

Plus with somewhere like Chaddy where there are hundreds of stores it's good exercise too haha.

What do you propose? I'm only 18 and inexperienced. Don't really know what I could be hired for. Is doing Cert II Business enough or do I need more qualifications. I"m itching to get out of maccas.

18 with up to three years experience at Macca's. you'd be surprised how happy people are to hire people out from Macca's. do what e suggested and just hand your résumé around. See what happens :)

Also, once you have work experience for about a year, you'll find it so much easier. I was actually asked by my old workplace (worked there 18 months) to return, and another business of a family friend wanted me too. So get your foot in the door! :)
