My school has a 90% attendance policy for classes. But, we can leave if we have spares. I have on average three spares a day, so it works out well for me haha
but there are those days that I look at my timetable and I have just one period and I know its just a catch-up lesson and I debate whether its worth getting ready, and travelling all the way to school just for 45mins of work I can do at home, for the sake of the attendance requirement

Same here, 90% attendance. But as 55% of my timetable is frees and I dont always bother to "sign in" for them. (we have a 6 period day) Needless to say, my attendance for frees dropped below 90% and got called into the student manger's office LOL. They were just a tad annoyed at me slacking, one asked if my bum was sore from lazying around not signing in for frees

Lucky for me tho, our 'sign in' system prints a receipt. I kept all of mine (literally a stack). So, when I had to go to the office to sort out my attendance, the office lady gave one look at it and just gave me 100 % attendance LOL

90% attendance is a VCAA requirement, not a school requirement

Schools don't like to give out N's because it looks bad on their stats :P

Are you sure? AFAIK it's 50 hours minimum class time and that's all.

That being said, my school requires 100% attendance of lessons where there is no valid reason for the absence.

I don't even want to think of my attendance! I'd say it would be near 70% :/
I had 56% attendance for Further Math :p
It was always in the first 2 periods ... not my fault!

One time we had a SAC and our teacher accidentally printed out all our attendance rates and this one kid had like 64% for all classes. I don't even think our school has much of a serious policy on attendance.

Yeah I think we had that but no-one met this requirement lol. Not as if they were going to fail everyone just because they missed a period of class here or there.

Attendance is a school matter, VCAA doesn't enforce any requirement like that. I'm betting your coordinators have just told you that to stop people disputing it.

From page 64 of the VCE Admin Handbook: "All VCE units require 50 hours of class time. A student needs to attend sufficient class time to complete work. The school sets minimum class time and attendance rules"

My school is another one with the 90% attendance rule. I wouldn't go to a single class if it weren't for that.

90% here in MPSC too, and they're harsh about it.
