Why is it that I always get set a truckload of homework that will take me the whole holidays to complete? This happened last holidays and I essentially got no rest at all. :/

Just keep a few days aside where you will, no matter what, do no work. You would have less time to do the work but at least you'll get some rest in.
Graduated with Bachelor of Laws (Honours) / Bachelor of Arts from Monash University in June 2020.

Completing Practical Legal Training (Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice)

Offering 2021 Tutoring in VCE Legal Studies (Awarded as Bialik College's top Legal Studies Student in 2014).

Offered via Zoom or in person across Melbourne.  Message me to discuss. Very limited places available.

It's because you're doing all of the hardest VCE subjects.

With all due respect, I take issue with this statement-what constitutes a 'hard' subject? VCE is set up in a way in which it is just as difficult to score a (scaled) 30 in Specialist Maths as Food Technology. It's because he is committed to his studies enough to endeavor to complete all the work he's set!

Homework is set by a school, not an issue of commitment.

And by "hard", I'm assuming he was referring to perceived difficulty of popular subjects.

I think you completely misinterpreted what I had said. As pi' said, I meant he is doing the most difficult subjects. There's obviously more homework involved and, one (or many) can argue that Specialist, Methods and science-related subjects are some of the most difficult and time consuming subjects, especially since the content is generally more difficult to learn.

I would still echo what honey-corowa said. Who is to say that the content in science subjects is harder than arts/humanities? How can you assume that more homework is involved in maths and science, or that it is more time consuming? I've been working my ass off this term and I'd hope to think that I've done just as much work as my friends doing math/science.

Anyway re: original point: yeah, Stick I  just think that you're a dedicated student who likely works through course content thoroughly. Make sure you have time for a proper break these holidays. You're allowed to take a bit time off from studies. :)

EDIT: 500th post. Wow, I don't post that much.

Has anyone been surprised with how well they are doing in subjects they struggled in unit 1&2 compared to now in unit 3&4 and vice versa?

For chemistry? Yes, yes and yes!

Units 1 and 2 were the bane of my existence and I would have dropped the subject this year if it wasn't a prereq!
But I've loved units 3 and 4 so far!! And as for my SAC's, I've been pulling much better scores than last year! (wooo!)

Also I've been doing better in all my other subjects in general this year (probably mainly due to the fact that I've only got four subjects this year and they're all equally important to me, compared to last year where I neglected all my 1/2's haha)

Of course, but I didn't mean that those were the only hard subjects. Specialist, methods and chemistry are regarded some of the most difficult subjects. The workload is also intense. I do agree though. I would find Arts/Humanities more difficult because I'm a complete newbie in those areas, but just in general, you'd rate Stick's subjects as some of the hardest in VCE. (I think this is why they are scaled up).

This is why perceived difficulty should not be taken into account when choosing subjects and tells very little as to his difficult individuals may find different subjects. For example in economics I find the content fairly easy to learn and am good at it, even though economics is considered to be a farly hard subject  compared to the other busines subjects.  There was a time I considered dropping economics because of difficulty but it's my strongest subject  simply because it's my type of subject.

Difficulty is a personal matter and not something that can he decided on through other people's  opinions.

I really need to have a productive holidays after wasting so much time last (this?) term. Started by organising my room today.
I have no idea how my room looks like a bombsite half the time when I just sit in one spot at my desk all day.

eclipse I feel the same way as you! I'm cleaning my room too (I'm now on my 'well earned' break). I only sit on my chair all day. I have crap everywhere that I don't even know I have.
