Dux of year 11 is an awesome prize. The school gives a $25 book voucher (which is pathetic; I won five subject awards last year and dux of year for $200 in total, and my academic excellence award last year was $400. LOL what the), but Monash Uni gives $1000...holy shite...

Monash Prize winner AND KLD I see? ;)

@Brighsky, we have monetary awards too, 400$ for student of the year, $300 for citizen and not sure how much for all rounder coz didn't get that one and didn't ask.
Buttt, the money is donated to use by the local Lions Club, not the school :)
2012:  Methods [48] Physics [49]
2013:  English [40] (oops) Chemistry [46] Spesh [42] Indo SL [34] Uni Maths: Melb UMEP [4.5] Monash MUEP [just for a bit of fun]
2014:  BAeroEng/BComm

We have subject awards that are based on SAC's and Dux obviously, on awards night which is early December (before results)

But for Valedictory, we had a bit of fun, every student got nominated an award by someone in year 12, something funny! Some of the awards were hilarious!

Oh I didn't get that one. I don't know who at my school got into that program.

But for Valedictory, we had a bit of fun, every student got nominated an award by someone in year 12, something funny! Some of the awards were hilarious!

My Valedictory night was no fun at all. I was in a bad mood at the time, and my parents, even now, tell me off for being in a bad mood. The logic?

Brightsky, Citizenship awards are to recognize a student's good behaviour and service to the community and usually they're pretty academically strong too :)

That joke...and that disclaimer...they're a bit TOO coincidental? It's a bit like saying, sure, quantum mechanics allows a car to tunnel through a wall unharmed, but will it?

That joke...and that disclaimer...they're a bit TOO coincidental? It's a bit like saying, sure, quantum mechanics allows a car to tunnel through a wall unharmed, but will it?

Reminds me of this (amazing) joke:

A physicist goes to an ice cream parlour every week and orders an ice cream for himself and offers an ice cream for the empty stool sitting next to him. This goes on for a while until the owner asks him what he is doing. The man said “well I’m a physicist and Quantum Mechanics teaches us that it is possible for the matter above this stool to spontaneously turn into a beautiful woman who might accept my offer and fall in love with me”. The owner says” well there are a lot of single beautiful woman come in here every day, so why don’t you buy an ice cream for one of them and they might fall in love with you”.
And the physicist says “yeah, but what are the odds of that happening”!

It's not amazing...the second law of thermodynamics would forbid it.
Also...conservation of mass? Even more entropically unfavoured.
Finally, it's unoriginal; it was on TV.
