What's the cheapest myki option for me?

I'm 18 and studying com/eng at monash and was going to get the yearly student pass but my friend said i'm not eligible for it because of my course. I can't find the list that he saw but if so, what would be my cheapest option for travelling to uni with myki?

Probably the best way to go for you (since you are nearly as far out on this side as I am) is the concession passes (if you're travelling at least 4 days a week then pass was cheaper than money iirc, well for us anyway). I normally do then in blocks of 4 weeks or so, since you aren't at uni for the whole year (2 12 week semesters with a midsem break then exams). Just need to make sure you get your VPT concession card thing so that you don't get pulled up by inspectors, the form for this can in WES under 'Student Services' then 'Apply for transport concession'. If you don't get the second email, check your spam folder, as lately its been going into there for a few of us.

Atm i have a concession myki but its the one where you just top up whenever you're low on credit. Is this the one you are talking about b^3?

You need to fill in a VPT form and lodge it at a premium station where they make a concession proof card, costs $9.

You need a VPT Concession Card in order to be entitled by a concession myki. It's a little card with your passport/school photo on it. If the ticket inspectors notice that you don't have a VPT Concession Card along with your concession myki, then they can fine you.

If you're using myki money, you should touch-off, or you'll be charged a default fare. If you're using a myki pass, like a weekly or a yearly, you don't need to touch-off (but it doesn't matter if you do, it doesn't change anything).

The only time you don't need to touch-off when using myki money is on a Zone 1 Tram.

I've encountered several officers but no one asked that thing...that's why I find it unnecessary..why not two more extra trips? For default fare, is it a dollar and something? Thats what costs me for a single trip

They can only tell if they are looking at the myki gate as you touch on, as it shows what kind of myki you are using. Then they may stop you and ask for it.

A girl on my train yesterday got fined for not having a concession card. They're really locking down on it now.

And it's fairly common to see officers on the 601 and other buses from the bus loop too, they make a heap of money

I always keep a 3 year old concession proof card on me to mess with these guys. Seriously, ticket inspectors can go stuff themselves.

I didn't know about this concession card thing. I got "caught" by a ticket inspector as well

They just ask for a reason, then they'll send it to the transport department and they said that you'll hear from them in around 6 weeks.. If you don't then you've gotten away with it.

I forgot my full fare card so I took my brothers one, topped it up properly and touched on touched off what ever. Yet they even think of fining me It'd make more sense if they asked me to pay the full fare which is understandable and makes sense.
