The cost of medicine is set by the federal government; they don't care where you're doing it or what your degree is called, they're only willing to pay $X for it (about 10k, depends on what band it's in).

If you get a fee paying place at UoM, then they can charge you whatever they want, because it's not the government paying. That's where your $60k figure comes from and the confusion.

and hm... @ pi, im sorry for asking so much, but i just wasnt sure about doing biomed at monass or melb (i'm afriad of GAMSAT) but monash... hm....

While GAMSAT sounds big and scary, you can prepare for it a lot better than you can with the UMAT (from my experience). If you want to maximise your chances of getting an offer from other medical schools in the country then you'll have to sit it, even if you do go to Monash.
