Hello, I would like to get into uq or unsw med by interstate. I was wondering if both courses are changing to MD? So three yeara of a bachelor degree then medicine. I wanted to knkw if unswed course also offers clinical rotation overseas because i really want to do that. Does anyone know the cut off score for umat and atar for 2013?

UQ is MD now already, for info on UNSW -> http://med.unsw.edu.au/mbbs-md-changing-unsw-degree

For ATAR/UMAT cuts form previous years -> The "Will I get an interview/offer with this UMAT?" query for med and dent

Most unis can arrange for overseas clinical rotations.

Yes both courses are changing to MD, UQ in 2015. If you're thinking of graduate entry, UNSW only considers BMedSci students already at UNSW who are doing Honours.

UQ's med is still MBBS at the moment, MD will be introduced in 2015: http://www.som.uq.edu.au/about/organisation/doctor-of-medicine-degree-(md)-at-uq.aspx

Have you emailed UQ regarding this?

Interesting to see all these post-graduate professional medicine degree changes. It seems that the MD will be more wide-spread than the MBBS in Australia by a couple of years.

The interesting thing about the UNSW degree is that the predominant entry path will be Bachelor of Medical Studies (BMed) / Doctor of Medicine (MD), so most people will still get in through ATAR + UMAT + Interview, presumably using UNSW's current scheme.

Quote
The predominant pathway for entry into the program would remain first-level entry students from high school.  The proposal does not change the existing processes for selection into Medicine nor the number of students selected into Medicine.  A single code would be offered through UAC for application to the BMed MD program.

Students selected into the program would enrol in both degrees.  From the outset the students would be classified as medical students and be registered with the Medical Board of Australia and be required to adhere to the requirements of the NSW Ministry of Health for medical students training in teaching hospitals.

So Bachelor graduates can't start at the MD like UoM's entry scheme? Then basically nothing has changed in terms of overall course restructuring except for lengthening one year and renaming MBBS to BMed & MD. It's kind of annoying that they won't allow lateral entry into their Med School but it's their call I suppose.

There is a graduate entry pathway through BMedSc, probably similar to what they have now as well.

And the fact that they only allow UNSW students to do that doesn't help. I don't see how it would be different from their 6 year MBBS in terms of time.
