Primarily the best thing to do is give it your all. Don't worry too much about the SS but focus on the task at hand as leads to more improvement. If you enjoy maths and are doing it out of passion and not for a number (funnily enough) you'll be surprised that the SS at the end was nothing compared to the knowledge gained.

Ok well, not "bombed out" I guess, but they just did worse than I expected them to do (at their skill in maths)

Small mistakes do drop your score significantly in spesh due to the lack of difficulty of the exam the past couple of years.
