If one takes a gap year are they considered a "non year 12"?

If one accepts an offer to defer and then turns down the offer when asked by the institution if they still want the offer do they still apply through VTAC as a year 12 and considered a year 12? or are they considered a non year 12

I would have thought that once you get your VCE, you're not considered a yr 12 student, and you aren't enrolled in school either.

But I'd wait for a definite answer :)

From VTAC:

Quote
VTAC considers you a non-Year 12 applicant if:

  • you are not currently enrolled in any VCE, Australian Year 12 or International Baccalaureate studies in Australia or New Zealand.
For example you will be considered a non-Year 12 applicant if :
  • you completed Year 12 in a previous year
  • you are currently studying an overseas Year 12 qualification (e.g. A-levels in England)
  • you officially withdrew from all VCE Unit 3 and 4 studies by Monday 30 April 2012.

A lot of people from my year are overseas for the year, but they accepted then deferred their offers, so their course entry is still as a Year 12.

So doing just 1 VCE subject per year is enough to count you as a year 12 applicant?

edit: But this is still unfair! I swear they said they would count you as a year 12 applicant if:
1) You completed your VCE in the past 2 years (ie. took 2 gap years or less)
2) You are under 21

Or is that only for "mature age" entry? What is the difference between a mature age entry and a non-year 12 applicant?

While you wouldn't be a year 12 applicant as such, you still apply on the basis of your ATAR et cetera.

Anyway, you can apply for an offer as a year 12 student even if you plan to defer it. You can later decline that offer, and make a new application to VTAC as a non-year 12.

Will I still get Access Melbourne? Cause if I don't, then I need to increase my ATAR score...

Probably best contacting UoM about that, but I'd imagine so.

You're considered as a year 12.
