Can anyone recommend an interesting issue for English?

At my brother's Primary school, if you don't pay your voluntary fees then you can't go on excursions, which is pretty lame IMO because you're essentially paying twice for excursions.

there are voluntary contributions and then are optional extras that parents are expected to pay for like excursions. they are separate.

hrm that's illegal and against the Department of Education's policy. they can't bundle shit together like that. and force parents to pay for everything if they only want one.

Should teachers be required to follow dress codes? Should uniforms be enforced at all?

Uniforms on children: up to the school. Uniforms on teachers: up to the school.

The point raised above by students is made by the immature ones who believe "if we have to do it, they have to too!" I don't really see any added benefit to it, but if there is: if it really does improve the learning environment, or whatever proponents claim it does, then the market will demand it, and schools will implement it.

Speaking of teachers wearing uniforms, the teachers at my school were told to wear a special uniform for when they were on yard duty lol... some of them wore it all day though ^_^ it was really weird though imo

i was talking to my English teacher at our orientation camp yesterday and she said she would get us to look at the corey issue, like in terms of the attention he is receiving and the money he is getting from underage nightclubs and things. i dont know how true this is but she thinks she has picked the previous 2 years issues on the exams and she thinks this could be on there this year. i dont know though last years issue was related to the way parents treat children which is similar.

i don't think any serious english teacher would use that as an issue. maybe a public school english teacher might..

Not as much as implying that i would not be surprised if it was a public school English teacher. I think to even classify the whole corey saga as an "issue" for the purpose of VCE English is a complete insult to the intelligence of students.

well i actually go to a privet school. i have also been to a public school and if anything i think that the quality of English teachers throughout both schools is the most consistent thing from the one school to the other.

I think it's a good issue (and that's a good book, I heard they're going to make it into a movie). And I'm for it provided that the 'spare' baby is looked after well (but I can't imagine why it wouldn't be).

For 2008 English, gotta do an oral SAC on an issue. Any kind of issue. I have a few ideas, but anyone got some good recommendations or maybe what they did and how they went?
