At my school we are moving approximately at the same speed, we are currently discussing settings based approaches in class and the role of the government in promoting PA. So we are almost finished with AOS1! I can't wait for the day we get started on the energy systems.  My sac is on the 12th of March so it is about a week from today. Good luck!! :)

Hey michak! Yes, I do have some aching questions regarding a lot of the content in Ch 3 of the Nelson TB.

1. Is it necessary to remember all the government initiatives promoting PA on page 73? Should I just remember a few?

2. Also on page 74 do I need to know about the Be Active Australia framework for my upcoming sac and the end of year exam?

3. Page 76 is just a wall of text. I read it all and there seems to be a lot of info about the research Salmon conducted. Is it actually something crucial to remember for sacs and the exam?

4. In general there seems to be so much information regarding what research into the promotion of PA has found, is all this information useful or is it just supplementary to assist the understanding of the course? Is this important for the sacs and exams?

5. In general Chapter 3 has a lot of information about the initiatives used to promote PA. Is it essential to know these initiatives fo sacs and the exam?

THANK YOU SO MUCH MICHAK you are a life saver!

AS IF!
my school have finished aos1 and the sacs associated with it, plus we have finished chapter 4 and are now doing chapter 5

Your school sure is moving quickly, may I ask what school you attend?
If this is the case I think that during the term 1-2 holidays I will make sure I have all of Unit 3 mastered then.

3. Explain more about page 76 - i dont have the book anymore. By the sounds of it no but give more detail please of what it is.

Thanks for answering my questions so quickly! :D

Well page 76 pretty much is a big slab of text

Yeah mostly just extra stuff
Note the definition of setting and then part near the top about multi-level approaches
That's about it :)

I'm considering picking up the Nelson textbook, as I believe the Live It Up 2 textbook doesn't cover as much content as the Nelson textbook does.

Yeah I agree I had a look at the live it up book last year and it does t have much detail as nelson, also sometimes I was just a bit confused.
Either see if you can get the book or if not the a+ notes is a good substitute :)

Yes the Nelson Textbook is really good, you might be able to pick it up secondhand for a cheaper price, say 30?

It may be excessive however it has great explanations and diagrams and even comprehensive charts so I do recommend it.

I have A+ and it is just essential in my opinion. It is an amazing summary.

The authors of both texts above are identical and at school we use the Malpeli and Telford PowerPoints, they are great too. :)

Awesome I will take note, thank you again. :]

Hello, could anyone please inform me whether I need to know about the Initiatives that were used to promote PA such as Find Thirty, 10000 Steps, GO For Your Life etc?

Thanks in advance! :]

i think its a good idea to know generally of a few and then 1 in detail
but in the exam you probably will get all the info you need!

I would know walking school bus, 1000 steps and jump rope for heart. These program's are usually more important for sacs depending on your teacher. In the exam you are generally given info on these program's or they make one up. But that being said I dis come across a couple of practice questions that required you to know the able program's I mentioned.
Knowing the other program's are optional, maybe ask your teacher because they may want to you know then for the sac only.

Hope that helps :)

For my sac we are analysing a case study in a particular setting. I did a practice sac the other day and it was actually on the implementation of the Walking School Bus.

They actually came up in practice exams? I thought PE was mostly application questions. :|
Anyway thanks for your help again. :D

Yeah it wasnt a vcaa exam or anything. It was something along the lines of how effective do you think the walking school bus program is in increasing school childrens phyiscal activity levels, so had to critic the program and no info was given.

Maybe dont worry about the exam to much for this but maybe the sac.
Just ask your teacher to make sure :)

Phew! I was getting worried. I guess I will focus on some strategies and initiatives to be safe. ^^

By the way is PE similar to biology? On the exam do I have to be super specific with my answers like Biology?

Not really similar, you do look at energy systems but compared to bio its very superficial.
The detail you need to know in pe is was less than bio.
Bio can just help you understand the energy systems topic a bit more but isn't needed.
For example you will understan why an increase in hydrogen ions produced from the anaerobic glycolysis is bad - in that the rapid change in acidity can denature enzymes. This detail though isnt required in pe but it just helps.
