Oh yeah, my tutor (respected examiner) told me that the 2008 exam is going to be extremely hard. She said that many students when they look at the Sample exam, thinks it going to be easier, but at a closer look its quite the contrast.

In 2008, students will have to read and memorise all the important events from all 4 books. This is because the exam will give you a prompt about a theme which is interlinked with all 4 books. We poor '08ers have to use them to answer the questions giving quotes from the books.

At least theres not much issues stuffs, just a lang. anaylsis. In addition, there will be no shakespeare next year (but i'm unsure about that, gotta verify)

Yeah. you were lucky '07ers, very lucky. :p

There has been so much speculation about this whole English not in the top 4 thing; I wonder how it ever started...

But if one was to just think logically; why would they make a compulsory subject not in the top 4? No-one would waste their time with it.

But then again logically and VCAA don't always go together.

I have not heard of that theory. You mean 5 subjects count towards your ENTER.

i heard the not-in-top-4 rumour too, and so i asked my eng teacher to find out (she didn't even know!) and it IS still in the top 4 for 2008.
apparently this rumour goes around every year from hopefuls trying to wish it true....

dammn, I wish ENG didn't have to be in your Primary 4. It'd be so good.

WHY ARE THEY REMAKING THE ENGLISH CURRICULUM OMFG

Calm down.

It could still be a good thing. You can still be creative in section 2 with the context study.

You only need to do 4 subjects as it is, no need to be lower :P

Yeh in NSW they have 10 units must be completed.

In Vic, it seems you have to do comparitively more subjects. I still wonder if there is ever going to be a national education system.

I've had a look at the sample 2008 exam. It looks quite interesting actually. It will certainly separate the best english students from the weaker ones. I don't really think the current english curriculum is able to do that adequately. Regardless, I'm still glad I did VCE english in '07.

Section 2 is going to be a surprising new addition.
Very subjective section.

Look at it this way- it may seem a little daunting due to the fact that the paper has undergone a total overhaul, but by the end of '08, you will have done so many practice papers that it will become second nature to you.

They key to success in english is consistency- if you work solidly from day 1 of 2008 and absorb as much knowledge as you can throughout the whole year, you will be more than capable of reaching the A - A+ grade bracket.

Those students that struggle are those who just cruise through the year thinking that everything will sort itself out. With dedication and solid practice, even weaker students can find success in english.
