[citation needed]

I highly doubt that this is true. Find me once source which says so. It's flat-out age-discrimination - do all under 16's have to stand? How about those on other types of concession, like a health care card or being a war veteran? If this is something specific to those on student concession cards, then it should say so somewhere when you apply for them. Or anywhere.

Small print on the back of my concession card:

Quote
The holder of this card shall not occupy a seat if there are no seats for full-fare paying passengers...

I think this only applies for student cards.

Interesting, I never thought to look on the back of my concession card for some reason! Guess I was wrong. Anyways, it's not enforced and I think would be quite problematic to do so.

I just happen to be a holder of a full-fee card anyway (I'm not a daily commuter).

You might as well get a concession, even if you only travel ~10 times for the whole year :)

How does one distinguish between who is a concession or full fee paying traveller? Ask to see their ticket before surrendering your seat?

I know, it was some error the stupid train station assistant made when I was switching over from metcard to myki. Next year I'll be a daily commuter so I think I might leave it until then.

Nope.
Sorry to sound harsh here, but I wouldn't have given up my seat. I'm always polite in public though. I've gladly given up my seat many times on the bus and train when I see elderly or pregnant people, no doubt about it at all, but the way you described this lady is that she was taking advantage of these students to be able to sit down.

Lol. Last week there was some girl that looked like she wanted to die on the [full] train, so I stood up at the announcement of the next station to make her think I was getting off the train and let her have the seat. Would do this irrespective of gender/age/race just because it's a nice thing to do and standing up doesn't bother me. However, if someone ever told me to give up my seat before I had the chance to volunteer it, I'd tell them to go and get fucked.

That's exactly what she was like. She just walked on and said to these two Year 7s "How about offering your seat to the woman?". I bet you she deliberately targeted them too. How rude.

Just because she's rude, doesn't mean you ignore her or escalate. You'll deal with a lot of people in life who you just want to yell at, but instead you'll smile and say "sure".

It makes her look like an asshole. Don't do stuff to validate her rudeness
It's really not that hard to quantify..., but I believe that being raped once is not as bad as being raped five times, even if the one rape was by a gang of people.

I understand and agree with what you're saying, but bullies shouldn't be allowed to win. You have to learn to speak up in life or else you'll just get walked right over.

There are moments when you should speak up, and there are moments where you need to learn to let it go. You have to learn how to distinguish between the two, and when to make the right call #westernburbs
