What?!?
My Dad loves that I don't drink. I think he's been expecting to see me brought home in the back of a police van for a while, and not drinking just means that it's less likely to happen.
✌️just do what makes you happy ✌️

During VCE, I also only drank at the occasional party and the odd single-malt scotch every week or so. I highly doubt it affected my studies in any way - if it did, it certainly wasn't significant enough to be noticeable.

If you think that alcohol consumption could become a problem for you at any point - not just during VCE - just don't start. You'll be better off for it.
I don't think alcohol is or will be a problem for me, just wanted to see how people use and manage alcohol here on AtarNotes. It does not affect my Studies nor my social life.

They should be happy! I thought it was every parent's dream to have a child who doesn't drink alcohol.

More of an expectation here :P

But I've had tutes on the problems of alcohol, so I won't be touching it anytime soon :P

What?!?

Says the German. Hehe. ;)

Hmm. Alcohol. There was a time in my life that I was bitterly opposed to it. ( Actually, probably right after I got back from Germany. 0_0................................................................ )

I haven't really drank up until recently, when I turned eighteen. I'm still taking it slow :) I think that has a lot to do with the people I hang out with.  I do have friends who party every weekend.  But the only alcohol I had at my birthday party was a champagne toast and half of my friends toasted to soft drink instead. *shrug.*

I'm trying to figure out if I like it or not.  I had a wine at a family event; maybe half a glass for my sister's birthday today. To be honest, I'm starting to think it's overrated because all it does is make me a better dancer. :P Not only that but I've seen it cause (some of) my friends to do stupid things like make out with random people and ewwhywouldyouwantodothat. XD In any case I don't feel any pressure to start drinking heaps. :P

Didn't drink during year 12, still don't drink now.

I can understand why people drink but it's just not for me.

I drink occasionally - every month or so, slightly less frequently recently actually. I'm not even near addicted to it, and I (usually) stay within my limits - so I'm not overly concerned about any adverse risks. Feel free to call me overconfident though if so you wish :P

The only time I really drank was at 18th parties, and I probably only went to about 10 of them throughout year 12. In small amounts, alcohol did nothing to affect my studies. In large amounts (eg. 10+ standard drinks in a night), I missed a day of studying because I was really hungover.

But overall, I don't think it had a huge impact on my studies. The dux of my school went to all the same parties as me and had just as much to drink (well, almost as much :P) but he still got above a 98 ATAR.

all it does is make me a better dancer.

Couldn't have put it better myself :P

do stupid things like make out with random people

I think that most of the people who do things like this are probably thinking about it even when they're sober, they just don't have the confidence, or they have too much personal pride, to act upon that instinct and fulfill the urge.

see me brought home in the back of a police van for a while, and not drinking just means that it's less likely to happen.

This is exactly the stereotype that gets fed into the minds of parents from sensationalist media such as Today Tonight or A Current Affair. Alcohol can change people in small ways, but it won't turn a good, moral, upstanding citizen into a rebellious, lawless thug.

Having said that, there is no harm whatsoever in not drinking, so I can fully respect your decision to steer clear of it, just to be on the safe side.

Haha, I've also heard similar things said by very high achieving students.

I've never really had alcohol. So no i didn't drink during VCE and I still don't. I live on campus this year and i see people drinking excessively and making fools of themselves and doing things they regret the following morning. Drinking just isn't for me and if you feel like you need to drink to have a good time, that's your decision. I know what its like being one of the only sober people in a large group of drunk people. Its not fun but that's not enough reason for me to drink.
I do know of one guy on campus who drinks almost every night and still manages to get amazing results (he hasn't dropped a single mark in anything so far). I don't think it works out like that for everyone though.

Didn't drink until I was 17 when most mates had been since 14/15 or so.

I drink when I'm at a party, so maybe every 3 to 4 weeks or so. It's definitely enjoyable, as long as you're not an idiot about it.

I was initially quite surprised reading this thread by how many people don't or haven't. But I suppose it makes sense when one questions the type of person that would more likely frequent AN.
